It was November 2018 not April 2018. That was a mistake by Tesco.

Tesco say....

the underwriter was unable to continue providing cover. This was because your previous policy expired out-with 30 days of the new policy's inception date.

This is incorrect. They took me through the quote process again to see what the price would be without the 8 years no claims and the result was that they could not provide a quote. It was for this reason that they had to cancel the insurance.

Tesco also say....

If there is an overlap of more than 30 days, the proof of NCD is invalid.

This conflicts with the information provided on the Tesco website where they say the proof of claims has to have been within the last two years.

It is because the gap is between two policies on the same car.

They are not prepared to insure someone who kept their car uninsured and not declared sorn.

the two year gap refers to someone who has not needed insurance for two years because they dod not have a car or the car was declared sorn.

That's probably right, but you'd have expected they'd have made that clear in their T&C's. If they didn't then you'd hope they'd let the OP walk away with just a charge for the period of cover and no 'black mark' re a cancelled policy.
