Surely she would need to have evidence that she went to the doctors at the time, the doctor diagnosed the hair loss as being caused by the hair treatment and / or a specialist concluding the same?

She cant just conclude herself the two are linked.

As per other advice, i'd be phoning my PL insurance company and seeing what they say. I am sure they have armies of people who rebuff nonsense claims like this daily.

She has 3 years (or 3 years from turning 18 if she was under 18 at the time) in which to lodge a claim of negligence against you. It makes no difference whether you, or anyone else on here, thinks she 'should' have done it sooner. The 3 years starts counting from the time when she realised there was an issue and that someone had been negligent. Beyond 3 years and the Statute of Limitations kicks in.



So, if she has a legitimate claim, then she is perfectly within her rights to be making the claim now, rather than at the time (for example, at the time she may have thought that the hair would grow back, but has now been told that it won't).



But as others have said, she will need a lot more evidence than she is currently presenting. Remember those 3 little words - 'So sue me'.

If someone loss their hair as a result of a hairdresser's negligence, they would probably be able to claim tens of thousands pounds by going to a no-win-no-fee lawyer, rather than spending the money on a small claims court application fee to get only a few hundred pounds.

Note you MUST tell your insurance company that you have had this claim for damages, even if it is a hoax. If you do not, then it could affect any future claim you make on your insurance in an unrelated matter.

This is what makes me think it's a hoax. If you had genuinely lost your hair you would be wanting more than £700 to make up for it!! But - £700 is a handy amount of money and the sort of money that a hairdresser might be able to lay their hands on if they were scared.

This is definitely one to talk to your insurer about. They will have a clear pathway for any claim she wishes to make. They tell you what they want, you tell her, and she either vanishes or puts in a claim.

I'd report her threats to the police, especially if they are more than reputational.

My mate did my hair 20 years ago, not got much left now, his fault...

Anyway, I would just point her to the small claims court, if calls keep coming in block her.

As above hand over to your insurance company, they will require all her evidence, to which they can confirm time/date of photos but also question why the claim has taken so long etc.

My hairdresser won't dye hair unless you've had a patch test prior to your 1st visit and if you've left it more than 6 months between dyes
