I realised it isn't this code it is after but for some reason now if i insert a giffgaff sim it is asking for a security code and I have no idea what this would be as I have never set one.
If someone could help me with this i would appreciate it.

Original would have been 12345, maybe try that first..

Otherwise try the following *#7328748263373738# to reset security code.
Should revert back to default security code (12345) if it works.

That's the SIM lock. Nothing to do with the phone being network locked..
The default SIM lock for giffgaff is 5555.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Old Nokias had a security lock which could be activated in the security menu which prevented a different sim being used. If the phone is asking for “security code” it’s nothing to do with the sim.

Here’s an explanation for you from an old Nokia instruction manual (for the Nokia 7110, so ignore the key press sequences).

As I said in a previous post, the old Nokia default security code was 12345.

I’ve actually found an old Nokia code generator, so here’s your master security code.
    IMEI: 351463101151129
    Nokia Master Code: 1646642227

Type the master code into the box when the phone asks for the security code.

The 1661 isn’t standard DCT3 or 4 so no code generator works for it and it needs to be connected to be unlocked, unfortunately it means paying an unlocked or asking Virgin for the code.

There’s some live download links (top 2 unlockers in the list are most useful) at http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/unlock/

You can also use the various online versions if you don’t want to download.
