For some reason the media method has been more reliable (for me.)
Thanks grumpycrab, got there in the end.0 -

Should have it all off by pat by then. MS did the usual on this one though as I got a message up to register my O365! They had changed the account detail on laptop during upgrade so my O365 subscription wasn't recognised. Sorted now though after I realised what they had done0 -
Out of interest does it have AMD graphics?
I was attempting a new install of 1809, which kept stalling with an "error cannot continue" type message, the problem was because it has HD 4200 graphics.
From https://community.amd.com/thread/234121There are issues with network drives failing to reconnect after logging on to a Windows device, and Edge in 1809 may stop working if you’re using either an AMD HD 2000 or HD 4000 GPU. AMD has dropped support for both of these devices already. Microsoft is blocking updates for these users as well and exploring how to work around the issue.
I don't know if the issue has now been resolved.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I reverted to a clean install of 1803, no problem.

No not AMD graphics. The install went smoothly though I think it took over 3 hours and you know you always get concerned when that happens. But I have some issues with Edge and its new set up being very touchy. Guess I've got to get used to it. Everything else seems to be okay, so here's hoping0 -
I always thought HD 4000 (and derivatives) were Intel onboard graphics? Seems there's an AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4000 series too.0

I updated a machine with an AMD HD 2600 Pro graphics card to 1809 without issue 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Also a machine with an even older AMD card (Radeon X300 from 2005).
Edge is working on both machines.
But I guess that was because I had working drivers already on the machines. A clean installation might have been a different matter.
You can back up drivers though.0
