VW Golf Approved - not warned not suitable for low miles

It's not the mileage you need to worry about, it's the types of journey. You could do 3000 miles a year by driving once a month for a long trip. You could do 15,000 miles a year by driving lots of short trips around town and that would be bad for a DPF too.
DPFs have been around for over 10 years so really there is no excuse for not knowing the type of driving you do and what car would be suitable.0 -

My last 3 cars have been running on the black stuff but I had a change of circumstance shortly after getting my current one which has now only done a little over 13K in 28 months. The majority of the trips however have been fairly long journeys with a mixture of driving and I've not had any issues with the DPF.0 -

Ah yes, the good old ‘as long as I’m alright, sod everyone else!’
If you were anywhere near as obstinate when buying the car, you were probably advised at the time and chose to not listen to the advice (I get the feeling you’re always right, given you’re willing to try and take them to court because YOU bought the wrong car....)
Always someone else’s fault, isn’t it

Brilliant idea, waste even more money to go with what you're going to drop on the diesel car.0 -
I used to have a Diesel DS3 HDI 118BHP in 2012 which I bought because I expected to be doing about 15000 miles a year. Car was great to start with but I decided that I wanted to drive it economically.
Example get on the M1 and drive 300 miles at 60 miles an hour with cruise control on. They drove around for a couple of hundred miles never going above 2500 revs and about 250 miles into the return journey doing 60 on cruise control the car died. Called the AA and they said DPF clogged.
Told to make sure that I kept the revs above 3k for 20 mins each week to burn the crap off in then DPF.
I did have the problem once more but then made a point of spending 10 mins a week racing up and down the gearbox at high revs. Pretending I was in my twenties and not 50's!
So for me a diesel was ideal for the mileage just not ideal because I wanted to drive economically. My last 2 cars have been hybrids
The thought of blaming Citroen would never have crossed my mind.
Traded it in after 2 years with 28k on the clock.0 -

A claim for what? the car is performing as it was designed to do. its not as if DPF regens were a secret. This has been common knowledge for many a year.0
