Difficult to say without knowing what car it is.

Do you know if they had to disturb any of the suspension to get access to the components they replaced. It is easy to disturb an abs sensor or forget to plug it back in which would put the abs light on the first time the car is driven.

If you can get the codes read if it points to the rear sensors or abs module unlikely to be anything do with them, front sensor code is very likely to relate to work they have undertaken.

It does seem Abit of a coincidence and why the guilty mind...

I've had garages show me worn parts without being asked which makes me think they had another of history where they were caught out previously.

    Did they jetwash the car?

I just asked as a relative’s car had an abs fault after a jetwash and it turned out to be rust washed into an abs sensor. Unlikely, but worth a mention

Not at all. I would’ve assumed it was one of those things/sods law. It was that they told me it wasn’t their fault and I hadn’t said it was. They then said that they hadn’t been anywhere near the abs system, but I’d have assumed the breaks should be checked on a major service.
They should be but all that involves is taking the wheels off and looking how thin the discs and pads are. You don't need to disturb anything really to check the brakes.

Each type of service builds on the previous level, so a basic service will typically include an oil and filter change and a visual inspection, but there will usually be a top up of all the key fluids in the engine (washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze and steering fluid) and a check of up to 35 key components, but apparently not the brakes in the POs case.
