ABS fault after service
Hello All,
I am hoping for some advice. My car has been in for a major service this week and an oil pump seal repair. There was an oil light on, which is why the car was booked in.
After the service and repair were completed, the garage contacted me to say that the ABS warning light had come on. This has never happened before. They have instantly said that they haven't been near anything on the car, which could have triggered the light, yet the garage say that the light came on while sat in their yard, after the work was completed.
I'm concerned I'm being swindled. Does anyone know anything that could help/have any advice?
Thank you in advance.

You are right to be concerned, indeed it could just be coincidence, do you have an alternative garage to take the car to for diagnostics on the ABS light? (assuming the current one doesn't want much more to resolve the issue).0 -
This is the problem of "you were the last person to have touched it and therefore you must have broken it".
If the car hadn't have been in for service, it would probably have still come on. They do that.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
As long as the garage hasn't been negligent i.e. chopped through the wires for the ABS then I wouldn't blame them. It's more likely to be just a co-incidence.
By any chance is it a Mk5 Golf or any of the VAG group cars from 2004-2009? There was a problem with Teves ABS units in the following cars: VW Golf MkV, MkV Plus or Touran; Seat Altea, Leon or Toledo; Skoda Octavia; Audi A3, BMW 1- or 3-series; Volvo S40/V50; or Mazda.0 -
Did they jetwash the car?0

anyway OP you might ask them to pull the code and see what has actually been reported.0 -

If they have done the brake in the service, they should know everything is ok. If they haven't inspected the brakes, why not?
So the car was parked up, after having done the work, and someone then had to move it, a little suspect.0 -

Not really. Depends on how busy they were, how stacked up the service car park was and where they had to put it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I’m having it taken to a main dealer and diagnosed today. My concern was that, without me having said otherwise, they told me that it wasn’t their fault. It just seemed a bit weird.0

Not at all. I would’ve assumed it was one of those things/sods law. It was that they told me it wasn’t their fault and I hadn’t said it was. They then said that they hadn’t been anywhere near the abs system, but I’d have assumed the breaks should be checked on a major service.0

Not as far as I could tell!0
