First of all, dont panic.
They cant get in unless you let them in or make it easy for them.
Second talk to your local Citizens Advice Bureau, they are excellent and even if the dont have an expert on hand, they are usually able to direct you to a trustworthy source.
Third, be careful about giving out personal details of any kind over the internet or to strangers,no matter how well meaning they seem. It is easy to take advantage of people under stress, particularly if they are feeling unsupported.
Finally, are you sure the debt is one you personally have incurred? There is so much identity theft these days that it may be someone else who has used your previous details. You need to sort out the exact nature of the debt for which the bailiff has been called.
Best of luck - there is plenty of hope and loads of strategies available to you.
Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

I would say you stay within the law when dealing with anyone. If you break the law in dealing with a baliff then you are as bad as they are and lessen your chances of being able to take proper legal actions against them.
No one should ever break the law, otherwise how can you then expect the law to protect you.0 -

This isn't helping the OP. I am concerned that you may have chased her away just when she needed help

Hello all, thank you all so much! I had a panic attack when this all happened. They didn't turn up at my house it was for my old address so couldn't find me, they turned up at a friends house and tried to take her stuff, i dnt think she wants to be my friend anymore

I had no idea what it was all about-turns out it was a parking ticket that we got at the begining of the year, i have had no letters from anyone and have been picking up my post since we moved. They wanted £280 and when we phoned up the council they had made a mistake and admitted they shouldn't have got the baliffs involved. They even know our new address! So the fine has gone back down to £60. Thank god!
Sorry haven't got back to you all sooner have been job/childcare hunting!
I have applied for a full time job so hopfully will be going back to work as we have alot of debt.
Thank you all again!0 -
That's really good news.

OK, a fine is still a fine but at least you now have a fair chance to pay and deal with it in a civilised fashion.
Good luck with the job.
