Paypal Holding funds for 6 months

Options
I signed up to paypal.

To hide my identity online, I used a nickname. I did not see anything on the sign up page to inform me that this was wrong.

I then sold £200 worth of goods on ebay.

For whatever reason paypal, before I withdrew any funds asked for identity verification. I explained that I had used a nickname. They have now locked my account and state that they will hold funds for 6 months (180 days).

What are my rights? I have sold items, and paid for shipping those items. I have no goods, no money, and I am out of pocket.

Thanks.

You are going to have to wait until they conduct their investigation. They will have to comply with U.K. financial regulations and that can take a long time.

Sadly it is a situation of your own making.

You know what I love. I love replies with no basis. I do.

How is this of my own making? There was nothing in place to inform me that I must use my legal name when opening the account. I have had a look through their T&Cs (briefly, because they are very long and verbose), and I can not see anything about this situation.

The risks of identity theft make is sensible to never use your real name online. I for one have have my credit card cloned before.

    But thanks.

Ultimately you can use any name you like. But if they suspect you to be in breach of money laundering rules they will be forced to investigate

This is covered by money laundering legislation. Nothing to do with your opinion

I have not been in breach of "money laundering rules". I sold a few items on ebay. I gave a full, credible, explanation, and even provided them with my (real) drivers licence, utility bill, etc. as requested.

I didn't say you were; clearly you have issues with reading.

When you sign up for PayPal they ask for first name and sir name and there’s nothing there to imply there asking for anything else

I love rude people. you should win an award.
  • Alright this has gone off topic. Clearly people on here like to attack and behave in a childish fashion. Clearly this forum serves no genuine purpose. I'm not asking for opinion and conjecture, or abuse. I was asking to see if anyone knew what could be done to get paypal to release funds. doesn't matter, its a shame though. These forums used to be ok.

You have been told though, you need to wait for them to conduct their investigation. Think it was even in the first reply.

What else can you be told? What would you like to hear?

Doesn't matter, it's a shame though, these forums used to be filled with people who accepted an answer, not had a hissy fit when they weren't told what they wanted to hear.
