E.ON smart meters on Fix Online

I was going to sign up to E.ON Fix Online v8 today, but I notice during the sign up process that it says I have to "agree to have smart meters installed". I don't want them.
This is not a "smart tariff" with variable rates at different times of day as far as I can see so I'm unsure why they need to stipulate I must have smart meters installed. Presumably the government is stepping up pressure on suppliers to hit targets.
I think I know the answer here, but in signing up I assume I waive my right to refuse a smart meter?

No, you can still refuse an appoitment BUT EON then have the right to switch you on to a more expensive tariff as you aren't observing the tariff's ts & cs.0

That doesn't sound too bad then, although I'm guessing I would be slapped with the £60 exit fee?0

Don't know about the exit fees - in the past I moved tariffs within EON and they never charged the fees for an internal move:)0 -

I'm assuming you can't move from Fix Online to EnergyPlan for free though, since Fix Online has an exit fee and EnergyPlan doesn't. That would be the most likely forced move I think.0 -

You've answered your own question.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

brewerdave is correct. Eon do not charge an exit fee if you move tariff but stay with them, only if you switch supplier.
Regarding the T & C of having a smart meter fitted on certain tariffs then that's a different matter but when asked to switch to a smart meter by Eon I asked them if they were fitting Smet 1 or Smet 2 meters and they said smet 1 at the moment (unless they've changed that policy recently) so if you later switch supplier the smart meter will become a dumb meter.
Perhaps the Eon rep could clarify these points to keep us up to date.0 -

Sounds like a good way to escape an E.ON Fix Online deal early then, do a free switch to EnergyPlan, which has no exit fee, then switch out.0 -
Possibly, but check the Eon T & Cs carefully first.0

I have done that with EON, moved from fixed to variable, switched and avoided exit fees0
