  • Hi there just wondering if anyone can explain to me what you actually get for the membership & what might be the best kind for me.

I have a little girl aged 2 and we got to a lot of parks together as I only work part-time. Does she need her own membership as the age range seems to be from 5 on the site? But then my OH will be with us occasional weekends so if it's places like clumber park where you pay £4.80 per car will he need his own membership to come with us or will we have to pay if he is? Also if I then go with a friend who also has a toddler will we have to pay if she is with us?

    I'm a little confused!

I think for places like Clumber Park you are paying for parking- they send you a sign to go in the car window, so unless your friend or OH was in another car, they would go free with you.
Of course,if you were going into stately homes, or going somewhere where there was a per person fee it would be different- though under 5s don't pay.
At least that is how I understand it.

  • C'mon people, be decent. National Trust is a CHARITY. It's in everyones interest to HELP it not take advantage like this. SHAME on you.

That discussion has been had many times before some fall into the same camp as yourself and think that taking advantage of an offer by a charity is wrong.

Others fall into the camp (me included although not taken advantage of this one as I see no point for me personally) that they make the offer as a business (albeit a charitable one) if it did not make them money one way or another they would not do it (more members can actually make them money as it will give better access to other funding) and they must have taken into account when launching the campaign that there will be a minority that will do what some here are doing and consider that a price worth paying.

Ask yourself something, this is a large charity paying millions in wages every year, how much are they paying the marketing manger? Bet its not tuppencehalpenny I bet (I don't know its only a guess based on turnover) they are on £100, 000 plus, but its a charity should they not work for peanuts?

Charity or not if they make the offer they make themselves fair game they know that they accept that or they should sack the marketing manager because they don't know what they are doing.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • I took advantage of this offer last year. It's expired now, I wonder if I could do it again for this year or do you think it's one per person. Anyone? (As for the charity aspect, I wouldn't have paid the full price, but considering I did the offer, last year I travelled all over the UK to the Nat.Trust properties and spent money on food, beverages, guides and gifts on every occasion. Due to the offer, the Nat. Trust benefitted from both mine and my mum's custom that they wouldn't have done otherwise).

I agree totally - would never have joined without offer, so they have made money they would not have. Would also be interested to see if anyone has done this twice?

Charity begins at home. I choose who and what amount I give .While they have had the most I can afford from me,I can't afford any more,so they did pretty well out of me I reckon.
