Lost my phone about a month after starting a new contract with Three, their insurance doesn't cover loss apparently and i'm now stuck in the contract without the phone. Using an old temperamental phone for the time being
Anyone have any idea or experience with getting out of a contract? is there anything I can do?

No. Why would you be able to? You agreed to a minimum term contract for air time, you lost the phone and unless you paid extra for insurance why would you expect to be recompensed?
The only question you should be asking if you have insurance is, if it's covered why are they refusing to pay? Otherwise, it's down to you.
As always, if you want to make things worse you could pay off the rest of the contract (i.e. it's monthly cost minus time served).0 -

Perhaps the OP could check whether any home contents insurance that he or she has would cover the loss of a mobile phone.0 -

Or I think some bank accounts (usually that you pay a monthly charge for) include this kind of insurance... ?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Why would you think you can get out of a (separate) contract for phone service because you lost your handset?
Best bet would be to buy a cheap smartphone, 3 themselves sell a Huawei or Honor smartphone for under £100 on PAYG iirc.====0 -

dont think so, my sons bank account provided coverage for 2 phones. mine broke and we put in a claim for my phone as the second phone. it had never been registered with them previouslyYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -

Sometimes producing the receipt is enough.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
Is there any chance you could track the phone using GPS?
Also, for future reference, you can register phones and other valuables with immobilise.com. I know this won't help you now, but could be useful once you get a replacement.0
