Well a socket is as good as it gets; a six point socket would be best but I expect you have a 12. It should be fine. Run the engine first to get some heat on it.0

Worth a mention that if your vehicle’s date of first use is beyond July 2003 and the engine management light on, it will fail the MOT next time round.
Same again if you’ve blanked the O2 sensor, it is a separate defect.
On this basis, I’d advise that if you’re going to blank it, don’t leave it that way!0 -

Where do you get 2003 from; I don't see that anywhere; just the light must be working and then off. In fact when I took my year 2000 car for MoT the tester practically accused me of killing the ECU bulb and that really he should fail it. I had to point out it did not have a MIL / check engine light and had never had one when new. So that test station evidently has never heard of 'beyond july 2003' either.0 -

Well I checked here which is the latest MoT manual from May 2018 and it doesn't mention MIL light from what I can see? Can anyone find it?

OK I googled it; it's buried in section 8.2
For anyone relying on the 2003 exemption, I would recommend printing that off when going for a test if your MIL is stuck on.0
