I've done Mexico twice with TUI (don't all groan at once) as a package deal. Both times were absolutely fine, although I think 2nd time around I'd grown out of the AI party theme that you get at some hotels. Some deals are just too good to miss though.

Not really, just after decent food!

Would 10 days be too short with the jet lag?

We went to Mexico (Riviera Maya) last year for 14 days. TBH we were bored after about 10 days all inclusive (food and drink was lovely) but we just couldn't wait to get home. It took us a few days to get used to the time difference as we struggled to stay awake after 9pm local time each night. We got a great deal with TUI, the cost of 2 weeks in Mexico was the same as 2 in Tenerife!

This year we're off to the Dominican Republic for 10 days.

Behave, of course it wouldnt. I've done a 4 day trip to Vegas, and that is further west, and I was fine. Its just a longer day on the day of the flight, nothing a slightly earlier bedtime when you get there wont cure.

    Well, lucky you.

OP - Everyone is affected differently. IME if you are a ‘late night person’ you will adapt more quickly. I am an ‘early to bed, early to rise’ person and it generally takes me about 2-4 days to adapt, (depending on the time zone). I’ve also found that as I’ve got older, it’s taken me longer to adapt to the time difference.

Why is jet lag an issue if you're sitting in a resort doing nothing?

Seriously......spend your tourist dollars doing stuff and putting into the local economies instead of some big mega Corp.

Get out to local restaurants and you'll get food 10 times better than any all-inclusive buffet slop (premium or not).
  • Have stayed in the Rio Yucatan previously and loved it, was due to be there but had to swap our holiday for Mauritius to avoid Zika.
Next year we are booked to go t9 the Sandos Playa del Carmen. Location wise Playa del carmen suited us best as it meant we are in a nice “complex” and it’s close to Xel-ha which we loved.

We normally do 10 days but have done 7 before - Jet lag is not really a problem. A lot of the entertainment finishes quite early so you will not tend to be up that late.
If you are particular about what you drink look for one serving "Premium" brands rather than local spirits, for instance Riu is normally local where as Riu Palace is normally Premium brands.
We preferred Jamaica & Dominican over Mexico but everyone is different
