How many Computers/Laptops have you had?

1984 (ish) - ZX Spectrum plus
1990 - Amiga A500
1998 - PC - second hand Pentium 166 processor
2001 - Mesh PC - Athlon 1200 processor
2004 - PC - unknown spec
2006 - PC - Athlon 4200 processor
2011 - PC - Core i5-2500 processor
After this it get a bit more complicated, my current PC still has the (now overclocked) i5-2500 and motherboard but literally every other component, even the case and CPU cooler, has been upgraded so it depends how you define a new PC.
I've never owned a laptop but I'm currently on my 4th work one.
The rate of advancement of PC technology has definitely slowed. The i5-2500 was a mid-upper range CPU when I bought it and 8 years later is still capable of playing most games on decent settings, you wouldn't have been able to say the same for a 2001 CPU in 2009.
EDIT - completely forgot about another PC I had in 2004. Aside from the Mesh machine all PCs were either unbranded or custom builds.0 -
ZX Spectrum
Commodore Amiga 500+
Commodore Amiga 1200
HP Desktop
Multivision Laptop
HP Desktop
Netbook
Fujitsu Laptop (still using)
Surface Pro 4 (still using)
Quite a few. Never thought about this before.0 -
What counts as a computer?
I got my first computer, an Amstrad CPC 6128, in the late 1980s.
I got given a portable PC (a mains-powered monochrome 286 with carry-handle) and a few 486 laptops in the mid-1990s.
The first proper PC came in 1996. A friend gave me his old motherboard, CPU and RAM a few years later. I replaced the case, video card and added RAM some time later.
Then I got a new PSU, motherboard, CPU and RAM. Several years later I built another PC, still using the half-a-dozen hard drives from my old machines.
And just over 10 years ago, I built my current PC with a Core i7 CPU. Since then, I've upgraded the video card, doubled the RAM from 6GB to 12GB, and bought a PCIe-based SSD.
I also had three Compaq Deskpros that I used as print servers, file servers, and for playing with GNU/Linux distros. And a giant server which had fans louder than Concorde taking off (which I gave up using very quickly!)
I've also got a netbook which I use fairly regularly, a laptop I inherited, and an old desktop I let my sister's kids play on when they visit.
I've only had one smartphone, but it's a computer running Linux.
Quite a few, anyway.0
