Irritation with Google photos

I use Google photos. I also have created albums.

When I scroll through photos to send to the required album, I do just that. In a perfect world once the photo was in its album ie 2018 holiday, it would remove itself from the main mixed bag of photos, but it dosent, it's still there.

If I delete it from the main album, it disappears from the holiday album.

Am I doing something wrong or is it how it is?.

Archive the ones you don't want to see in your main feed.
Tap the hamburger menu - top left - then 'Archive' . Tap the screen+ symbol top right and select what you don't want to see in the main view.
You will still be able to find them through 'Search' as well.

They will still be in your albums.....Do a test first to give yourself confidence...

There is a word, it's something like "hoobloodyray".

I've just done as you say, a test and it works!. so after dinner, it will be all systems go. I will report back.

rumrat, I've just placed over or nearly 2000 pics to one folder then been through to put them in archive, but have feeling them might be a limit to each folder as the figures don't look right in each

When you say Folders I take it you mean Albums? AFAIK there is a 20,000 limit on Albums, so you should be well within.
Are you using the free storage and uploading in high quality, or, using Original quality and using your Google drive storage?

Yes, for folders I meant albums. I'm using free storage. When I take a photo with my samsung A5 camera, it is synced to ensure the photos go to google photo's. Clearly with that happening frequently, they needed sorting into albums.

I started at the top, more recent, highlighted about 24 at a time, sent them to an album, then retraced my footsteps to highlight the same 24 to send to archive.

At one stage, I noticed there were 1184 in Cyprus Hol, then after a while, noticed the figure was 1174, so felt something was wrong and stopped.

Are you sure you didn't duplicate any of them?

When you say after a while, how long?

I'm not really sure why you would have seen the discrepancy. I take it your are doing this on PC and not via your phone.

I am SURE there would have been duplicates.

Yes, on my chromebook.

I took notice of numbers as it seemed never-ending.

How do you move them?
I use Google Photos section of Google Drive.
When I want to move some I highlight the ones I want to move and then right click.
I then press Move to... and then find the album where I want to move them to.
When they have moved they are no longer in the Google Photos album.

Rumrat, I am gradually doing as you suggest, by sending pics to an album about a dozen at a time, then retracing footsteps and send that group to archive. It's taking time, but proving to be ideal, thanks.
