I can't believe this....

A plumber has been here all afternoon servicing my boiler. I have just noticed he has his car plugged into an extension lead into my utility room. He never asked if he could. How much does it cost to charge a car? Anybody know? He will be charging me in excess of £100 for the service.

Hi, it's unlikely to cost you more than £1 or £2 in electricty at most but what a cheek! I certainly wouldn't be using that plumber again.

I would be taking at least a fiver off his bill. Charge him for your time trying to found out how much he is stealing from you.

If you take something, with no intent on putting back, it is theft.

Say about 14p pew kWh and the maximum you can draw from a 13amp plug is 3KW. Assuming he spent 12pm until 5pm at your property, that's 5 hours.

    (0.14 * 3) * 5 = £2.10

Personally I wouldn't even bother charging him, just express your opinion to him.

No idea, but the culprit could face up to 3 months in prison, starting point a high level community order, (based on High Culpability, Lesser Harm)if you had reported this to the police, and they charged him with illegal abstaction of electricity, and he was subsequently found guilty.
A person who dishonestly uses without due authority, or dishonestly causes to be wasted or diverted, any electricity shall on conviction on indictment be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

All afternoon? Mine takes about 1/2 hour. Maybe he didn't have enough charge to get home.

When I last had mine done they wasn't long no more than a hour probably a lot less, think I paid around £40. Unless there is something else wrong with it, judging by what you posted, not only is he cheeky but taking you for a ride excuse the pun

Ha. So... he couldn't be padding out his time fixing the boiler, (for which he will charge you every extra 30 mins) in order to make sure his car gets a nice charge? :)
