NELSKI I actually got the recipe from a slow cooker recipe book but works ok in a pan on the hob. It has a sort of sweet taste to it.
4 rashers bacon
1 medium onion
1 carrot
(above finely chopped)
115 gm red lentils
400 gm tin tomatoes
800 ml chicken stock (less if you want a thicker soup)
salt and pepper.
Simmer about an hour then whizz."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly.
Nelski, it's a pity we don't live near, you have a quiet hour with my mother and I could have some one to 'talk' to with your DM.
I use this lentil and bacon soup recipe

Completed a jigsaw yesterday, 500 pieces, maybe try another one today. Too cold to risk going out.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone,
We’ve had a bit of snow overnight but nothing to disrupt too much, good job as DOH has a meeting in a nearby city.
Another one with a Friday clean to do plus the bed and towels needed changing so that’s my morning sorted.
Pony was a good girl for her Mum yesterday and worked well with only one little battle of wills in the whole lesson, considering she’d had three weeks off I’ll take that.
Sorry you have joined the early awake club Holly but good to hear you are looking after yourself, boring can be good if it means you are resting.
Take care to all poorlies or those caring for loved ones, have a good day folks x0 -
Good morning, nice to see you posting Holly.
We've got snow here, it started last night.
Like TA, I'm soup making today - smoked bacon minestrone, and might make a vat of spinach soup as well. You'll like TA's recipe Nelski, it's lovely.
I've been emptying the wardrobes, and cleaning them out, so I'll continue with that today. I have a friend who does this every week - eek - can you imagine doing that every week, I couldn't be bothered!! Mind, she is very very houseproud.
I don't know if we'll have our usual girls' night in tonight, see what the weather's like. We used to live nearer to each other than we do now, some of us have moved though. Still in the same town, but a bit further away.
Anyway, thoughts to the poorly people, and those struggling with life.
Take care folks0 -
Good morning everyone,
Sorry I didn't get the chance to come on yesterday. I was in London all day seeing a client of my colleagues. The meeting went ok, I suppose, we done as well as we could but we're no further forward it seems. Anyway, a decent trip which wasn't affected by the weather. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I do love London. Although it does cost a fair whack!
Today signals the first of the month and I won't be starting it with a NSD as I have a work night out tonight. Nothing mad I hope, a few beers and some food. I've taken a taxi into work so my cars still at home and I can go to the gym and/or yoga tomorrow (depending on how late tonight is).
Hope everyone stays safe and warm over the weekend.
Holly - Great to see you backAlthough perhaps not at that time in the morning!
AoD - hahahaha!!!0 -
Morning all
Imbolc blessings,
Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.
We have snow, only 2 or 3 inches, but we won't be going to the house today, it's down a steep hill that is never gritted so we will stay home. I expect CHS will want a couple of walks round the marina.
I got a chicken reduced in the Co-op yesterday, we had it with saut! potatoes yesterday, it's made a chicken pie a batch of soup and sarnies for lunch, not bad value for a couple of quid.
Taff, yep exhausted just about describes it.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all
We have snow too :j. It started at 5.30 last night and didn't stop, so we already have about 4 ins and a yellow weather warning till lunchtime. The busses are not running ( no surprise as they always struggle on these hills ) and the road is one track, even though the gritters were out all night. All the schools are shut, much to DD and family's joy. Jasper is a happy doggie too because he likes running round the garden like a loony in the snow:eek:.
I didn't have a good nights sleep as I couldn't drop off and watched the clock till 4 am, then was rudely woken by DH about 7 am shouting at DGS when playing X box. He swears he was only talking......... er no . A nanna nap may be the order of the day later.
Anyway I'm up and I was starving so I had a black pudding sandwich for breakfast, not a good start to today's diet.
On the Os front I did a load in the WM yesterday and today I need to clean the cooker top again. The DW will have to go on and then a tidy round. Tea tonight will be either a jacket potato or wedgies and something from the freezer. There is still some crumble left too mmmmm . ( I would have had that for breakfast, if i could have got away with it, but I thought I'd better not :rotfl:. )
Hester lovely to see you posting again. Take care of yourself and CHS. Did you manage to get your tenant out without a fuss ?
AOD love the comment about the police and bears. I think that will make me chuckle most of the day, you've cheered me up no end :T.
SilverOldie and Nelski if you swap Mums, who will take my Dad then ?
Take care and stay safe and warm.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Holly and Hester good to see you both posting again. Has anyone heard from LameWolf. I know she can't post very often but she's not checked in for a while.
We have snow, which is a surprise because it should have missed us. I don't think it will last long. I hope the roads are ok for Chris to get home from Bridgend. Crystal went down on Wednesday so if they can't get back at least they will be together.
Steve seems to have turned the corner at last. His temp was over 39 degrees again yesterday evening but it seems to be coming down more easily. He was starving in the night and got up and made himself scrambled eggs so that's a good sign. It's a relief.
We were supposed to be going to the theatre next Saturday with the family but I've told Laura to try to sell out tickets, I don't want to expose Steve to any bugs going around. It's his birthday weekend so I think they will all come to us for a meal on the Sunday.0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Lovely to see you posting again Holly, pity about the bag night.
We have had a very slight fall of snow, but once again there has been frost, not as bad as yesterday, but the car windscreens are iced up. No problem for me, not going anywhere. Have towels in the washer......
We have an air vent in the sitting room, we had to have it when we had the coal fire, the draught coming through is horrendous. We no longer have the open fire, so I am looking at blocking it off, no wonder my feet are always freezing.
Its a bright morning so far, but OH thinks we might have some snow later. Brrrrr......
Eye progressing fine, just 3 more nights with the shield on. OH is doing sterling work putting the drops in.
Another day with nothing planned. I have 3 pairs of trousers to turn up for my neighbour. I am going to have to hand sew them up, they are jersey fabric do not trust them on the machine. I am hoping to get one pair done today.
Supper tonight, fish and chips, Banana fluff for dessert. We tried 2 of the parsley box meals last night, not impressed, very sloppy and very little taste, I also had to do the veg. All in all to be honest the Wiltshire Farm foods are a lot better. I am going to have to see if I can keep a drawer free in the freezer and go back to them. The PB meals were the same price as WFF but had no veg with them, so for me they are over expensive which outweighs the fact that you can keep them in a cupboard rather than the freezer. My advice unless you like tasteless slop, don't bother.0 -
Afternoon all.I'm fuuuuuuuuuuuuuming today:mad: The gas bloke came yest, n left at 330pm saying he was going to get a part , n would be back before 7pm.He didn't show up or even ring, so I rang the company today, n they said I have to order my own part, then he'll fit it! They've already taken yesterday's labour charge from my card, so I've ordered it, but what a faff:mad:
Have got a fan heater on, n Zeus is going mad at it :rotfl:
