Quote for tiling bathroom

I just had a quote from a tiler to tile my bathroom, I've used him a few times before and he is very good so I would usually just agree the price and let him get on with it, but this time I'm not so sure. He quoted £480, the floor is 4m square and the walls 20m square, 24m in total so i figure he's charging £20 per m.
Has anyone got any other tiling quotes to compare?

We have been quoted £25 sq m for our bathroom. Needless to say we're not gonna pay that. It is hard to get a good tiler though.

Always advisable to get a quote upfront. When we tiled our kitchen we just asked a tiler who had previously done work for us to do it. He ended up charging us more than we had paid for the tiles (£30sq M)!!!!!!!!!

Crikey!!! I would bite his hand off, (if he's any good)

That is an excellent price, it does depend on the area, but in Greater London, you are looking at anything from between £28-£35 sqm

We have received two quotes from tilers to do our under the units walls in the kitchen. One quote was £160 the other £180 and thats for 5m sq.

The main problem though is actually getting a tiler to do the job!! None of my work colleagues would recommend tilers they knew or had previously used stating they were "unreliable". Eventually we did get three that we had been recommended.

First guy, after giving us a quote, then said he was too busy to do it before Christmas (why bloody quote us then!!), the second guy never turned up and when the third guy didn't turn up due to him having a cold we had the usual thoughts. Fortunately he was genuine as he rang back four days later, came round and gave us the £180 quote and said that, although busy with contract work during the week, could fit us in next Saturday. :j

Now my OH is a tradesman (gas and heating though) but I can well and truly see why they get a bad name
  • Is it just tiling?
    any preparation works needed?
    what are your walls/floor conditions?
What kind of tiles: Ceramic? Natural stone? Size of the tiles? Mozaic? Who would supply the materials?

    Hi

    who's your tiler please?

When is he doing the job? Please tell us what it's like when finished.

I desperately need a tiler for bathroom/ new ensuite. Last time I got a tiler I had to wait 3 months.

    Thanks

WOW that's a great price if it includes taking off tiles, I've just started to take mine off and it's tough going, also the walls are in a right state so are going to need plastering (another £150) before the tiler starts. What if your walls are not fit for tiling after tile removal, does your tiler's price include for making good? I doubt it very much, even so It's still a great price.
ps. Let us know what the quality is like.
