This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning :)

Yuk to this weather again car is solid and the roads look like an ice rink :(

Wasnt meant to be heading out today but a last minute call yesterday afternoon from one of my customers now sees me heading to Nottingham to cover someone who cried off. Hoping it wasn't a mistake saying yes as the forecast is pretty awful. I am quite happy to turn back it becomes too hazardous but i'm afraid work is work atm. Its a sales course so my comfort zone but oddly the company is a training company so you would think they could do it themselves. The plot thickens :)

The steak mini pies were quite tasty last night I had some beans and mini jackets too so it felt like a treat meal. Some more left for tonight I think its the leek and bacon ones. Cobbled together some car park gastonomy too ham and salad roll and some square crisps

Right best get project car defrost started. Have a great day if you can :)

    Morning All

Very cold, frosty and foggy here, really wish I could stay cosy in bed!
I put the recycling bins out last night but the lids are frozen on, hope they get emptied.

I had a good catch up with my friend last night and a lovely meal of a vegan enchilada with rice, very tasty. I don't think I'm doing very well with the diet but as I got a particularly rude text from the fat club leader I've been somewhat put off!

Taking DD to M&S after work for some new undies, hope the weather cheers up by then.

Right, the swimming pool calls, have as good a day as possible, hope Steve has had a good night and the other poorlies are feeling better. Take care. XX
  • Morning, quite cold here but no snow.

I'm heading out in a couple of hours to meet a friend plus her younger child, the elder child will be at school. I'm handing over a set of knitted farm animals and a hat and wristwarmers for friend, and we are having coffee and cake.

Later on, I'll just be pottering, probably make another trauma ted or two.

The washing machine is about to finish so I need to find space for a white wash to dry, there is more to go in but nowhere to hang it so the rest will have to wait.

Hoping that people have had a reasonable night, so many of us seem to be sleepless at present.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning, and thanks Nelski for starting.

It's brilliant sunshine and 30 degrees here - well actually it's bl**dy freezing and thick frost, but i can dream can't I.

Camelot, I admire your dedication in going swimming on a morning like this!!

I had the usual rubbish night, but forced myself to stay in bed till 6am as I knew the house would be cold. I'm even wearing pyjamas, which I normally find too warm, except when in the caravan. Usually I wear a cotton nightshirt and I'm pushing the quilt off me several times a night, not at the moment though.

i''ve got an appt at the doctor's for the results of a blood test on Tuesday, relating to my arm, which was infected last week. seems OK now though.

it was good to read Holly's post, she sounded positive.

Snoozer, I hope Steve is feeling better, what a worry for you both.

I'm going to cardmaking this afternoon, our first session of the year.

Thoughts to the poorly and sad people,

take care and keep warm folks.

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black, and very cold and heavy frost.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was haggis, mash, veg and gravy for those that wanted some, DH had chicken instead of haggis, mash, veg and gravy. Not sure about tonight - will organise something this morning, forgot to get the meat out of the freezer last night.

Yesterday work wasn't too bad, although it had times where it went to manic from dead in 5 minutes! Now on days' off until Monday, so have quite a "to do" list, will just work my way through it and do the best I can. I'm taking my car back to the garage first thing, to get the last job done - they let me know yesterday that they have the part needed so all good to go, hoping this sorts the problem.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI. Eeek minus 6 outside according to my phone! So far we have avoided the snow that other places up here in the NW have had. Not complaining.

Didn't get on here yesterday. Was on a downer and didn't feel sociable. Just had a skim back on posts. Nice to hear from HOLLY. SNOOZER I feel for you, I know the feeling of helplessness at not being able to do anything to help. This bl**dy disease is as draining for the carer as the poorly loved one.

I am still finding it difficult to sleep. Re-living and going over and over the worst of it. Things always seem worse when the rest of the world is asleep. People say that, although you never forget, it does get easier with time and try only to think of the good times. It's not always that easy.

Aldi day today. DD is stopping by for me on her way to school around 8.30 ish. Still persevering with living from the freezers where possible so just f & v, dairy and fridge stuff needed. But if the small gammon joints are still a good price I might get another. I was happy with last week's as I got loads of meals out of it and very little fat concealed in the middle!

The DGDs are here for tea and being Thursday it's Bolognese Bake day. They are not sleeping though as DD isn't working tomorrow and can sort them out for school herself. The two younger ones are coming straight after school as no swimming today but eldest won't be here till 7.00 after diving. I shall make an individual Pasta Bake for her and we will have ours earlier.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking of TAFF, HOLLY, POPPY and MR SNOOZER, Take care one and all xx

Fish and chips tonight from the van that comes to the village which is lovely and a real treat.

We had a bit of a day yesterday when two clients on separate occasions became violent there must be something in the air!!

Snoozer hope Steve is feeling a little better, if his temp is still high try putting his feet into a bowl of cold water it really helps xx

TA its still very early days don't be to hard on yourself xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

I’m glad that I’m inside with the heating on right now. It looks like a really hard frost this morning.

The plan is to spend the day on the sofa with a book and the TV again today staying in the warm.

I am doing some housework again now, and will dust the lounge and my bedroom today. I am slowly starting to do a bit of light housework each day.

I feel I have to get back into the swing of things and ‘normality’ although after what has happened it will be a ‘new normality’ because things won’t ever be the same for me again, but that doesn’t necessary mean worse, just different to how they were.

Food today will be cod, mashed potato and veg with a parsley sauce, all of which are in the freezer in the outhouse unfortunately, so I do need to venture outside briefly at some point, but not until I have had a few cups of tea to fortify myself.

Snoozer I do hope that Steve had a more comfortable night and that his temperature is going down now.

I was pleased to read that you felt a bit better yesterday taff and hope that the improvement continues. I totally agree that

Nanny Mr Fix it does sound really useful in the kitchen, would you consider hiring him out?

Silver-oldie I hope that the visit to your mum wasn’t too bad.

    Take care x

    Good morning everyone.

It's a chilly one today though it's above zero here, only just. I slept right through until five minutes ago.

This morning I need to crack on with mores 'postponed' paperwork. Once I start it's never too difficult, it's just that I mostly CBA. Later in the afternoon is my first teaching session this semester and then I'm going down to Glasgow if the weather is clear. I think that the snow is mostly going to be down south for a change.

For those who are down south I hope you can stay safe and warm. Happy Thursday to all.

Good morning and hugs for you TA. It's a hard road and not one you wanted to be on. Make sure you do something nice for yourself today.

Yesterday I went to the craft group and knitted a few more rows of the cot blanket, but more importantly enjoyed the company and a good laugh. A slightly different mix of people to the Friday sewing group, so adding to my circles of friends and acquaintances. This is one of the great pleasures of having retired and having the time and energy to expand into new activities.

Today it's Scrabble in the morning and then I'm seeing a friend in the afternoon. She's not been well for some time and needs a bit of support just now.

Foodwise, there's cabbage needing used up, and I still haven't turned the celeriac into soup. I might grate some of it and some onion to make pakoras for tonight's meal. I was in use it up mode at lunchtime yesterday and into a bowl went a sliced tomato, some sliced fennel, sliced orange pepper, cooked left over sweet potato, slivers of garlic, splodge of almond butter, a few hazelnuts, parsley which needed used up, and a left over half orange squeezed over it and a touch of balsamic. Left overs often make the nicest meals.

It's minus 3 here, so porridge for brekkie. I hope everyone has the best day possible, wrap up well if you're going out. xxx
