Anyone dealt with Pop telecom and won?

Options
Need some help and advice please if anyone can help.
Long story short (be here all day otherwise), I signed up for phone and broadband 2yrs ago with pop telecom, although it was a company called, The big broadband warehouse who I called and signed up with. Was with them 6/7mths, endless phone calls to them as internet was very poor, more off than on. Wanted to cancel but they wouldn't let me unless I paid £600+. One particular phone call complaining, I felt pressured/bullied into upgrading to their fibre (more money a month). It was abit better but not great. Eventually I cancelled my d/d and they terminated my account. They helped themselves to my credit card for the outstanding balance (yes i owed, fair enough). Fast forward to Saturday just gone, and I've received a letter from dcb ltd for £708.78 (the company you see on can't pay, we'll take it away).
Since I've changed providers I have had no problems with connection. I want to dispute this as I feel I don't owe this due to paying for a service that I wasn't getting 100%. I've never done anything like this before, so I don't know the best way to do so. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, you can't terminate contracts just by cancelling a direct debit, it almost always comes back to bite you on the backside. Sort something out now, before costs start to rise.

Sadly they don't have a good track record and are complained about lots. With dcb ltd involved It seems certain the only way out of it is to pay or at least talk to a solicitor, hopefully free for half hour, and see what their advice is. The proof of guilt to the bad service would be upon you to prove. Guess you could also ask CAB for their advice but not sure how good they are,

The only way they could have used your cc would be with your permission, so check out the CAB site as there is some info on there about distance selling and the use of your payment card. Not sure if it applies but worth checking. I also presume you have talked with your bank or cc company about the issue of use of your cc?

pmduk is correct in what he says and you do need to get it sorted quickly should you be in the wrong.
  • Thanks for the replies :-)

I only cancelled my d/d because I tried changing provider three times, and every single time pop cancelled it, even though I had complained several times regarding the non existent broadband.
As for the use of my credit card, they didn't have permission to take payment but after speaking with the credit card company, they can take it as I had used it to make payment in the past and had my details and something to do with master card conditions.
There is no way I can pay this bill even if I wanted to.
I'd understand if the service was good, I'd probably had of stayed with them but unfortunately it was not.
  • I've just put exactly the same on a pop telecom spread .all except I didn't receive any service .
