YORKSHIRELASS wrote: »Have had a chat about money tonight. DH is going to increase his charge out rate, look for extra work and if necessary will think about a part time job to fit around self employment. I am not totally convinced, it feels like he still doesn't really get it and is saying this to make me feel better.
I recall you said he is not good with numbers.
I wonder if his business needs someone to look at it with a financial head on to go through the books to see what will be the most productive way to increase he income.
the minimum would be to get a good handle on the overheads and what they are costing for each job/hour.
Is that something you could do or even one of your sons, it might free up some of his time to focus on what he is good at.0 -
Thanks all, really helpful posts. DH needs to get to grips with the fact that the business that he works hard at, and is proud of, doesn't actually make enough money to support his family. That's a big deal and he needs time to think this through and decide what to do. I don't want to push him in any particular direction but I do need to get him to understand the reality of the situation. He has agreed to change the way that he costs his jobs which is a start.
I really hope the boys learn from all this, that would be something.0 -

You can make sure that they do, I'd suggest.
As for DH - you're right - he HAS to come to the realisation of the gravity of the situation on his own - you can't make anyone have their lightbulb moment, sadly. You can - as you have realised - provide them with all the facts though.
I'd ignore the snarky comment made in another post on here about diaries too - the DFW diary board is a such a great community and you may well find it very helpful to chart your progress and bounce ideas off others.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
