Dune - faulty shoes but wont offer anything

Hi all,

Wondered what my rights are with this particular situation.

I bought a pair of flat shoes from dune in the sale in August this year. Wore them in store and seemed fine. I wore them a few times but not too often and every time I would get a pain at my toes.

The front of the shoes (really difficult to explain) but the material kind of folds and so on the underside at the front of the shoes theres a kind of bump.

The pain I experience is wierd too, and initially I thought it might just take a bit of time for the leather to become soft etc etc so I kept on wearing them (not very often because they hurt) and one day I ended up with a really ugly bruise!

I dont have too much free time but I thought that this cant be right, and that there's got to be something wrong with the shoes themselves as Ive ever had any other problems with any other shoes and my feet are not funnily shaped or anything. So took them back to Dune to ask about it and they said they would have to send them to customer services.

A couple of weeks ago I got my shoes back with a letter from customer services saying that they found no manufacturing fault and thats it.

To be honest I feel quite annoyed, as I cant wear the shoes that I paid for and there is obviously something wrong with them (most probably badly designed!)

Do I have any rights in this situation? I wouldnt even mind if I was able to exchange them and not got money back.

Thanks

  • Hi

I don't have much help to offer re: Dune but I have had a similar experience with shoes from Next, flat shoes also (ballerina style) size 4, I got them through Directory and wore them a few times but I just felt that they were not a true size 4, and I always am a 4. I wrote to Next but they basically said they are standard manufactured bla bla bla, so shoes might be a bit of a grey area with companies.

In saying that I have always had relatively good experiences with Dune and thought them to be one of the more 'upmarket' shoe shops. Maybe an email/letter to the customer services department stating you would be happy with an exchange? Although maybe its because they are in the sale and they just want rid??

From what you have described, I don't think that the shoes are faulty, but more that your feet do not agree with that style of shoe.

Sounds like some that I tried on in Clarks, not faulty, just a bit odd ...

I agree with dmg24; shoes sizes are a bit like bra sizes and vary from shop to shop and style to style! I'm a 7 in some shops, and 8 in others, although in Next I could be either, depending on style...

What's pain in the name of fashion?!?!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • They are definately the right size for me. I'm also different sizes in different shops, and these shoes are definately not too small or too big.

Its difficult to explain, but its not the tip of the shoe thats the problem, its the material that covers your toes - theres a lot of folded material and I think it just diggs in when you walk. Surely that cant be right. I understand the material has no problems, but the style of the shoe seems to be the problem ... there must be something safe guarding consumers against things like this?

There is, you need to examine the shoes more thoroughly before you buy them.

I have had endless shoes that are uncomfortable, and now it has got to the point that I will really poke about in the shoe to check for any potentially uncomfortable bits.

If they were faulty then yes, you would have legal rights. As they are just an uncomfortable design, then you have no recourse. Sorry x

So the style of the shoe does not suit you personally?

The style of shoe may suit other people fine.

We all have such different shaped feet and not all styles suit us.

They would have been wear tested I imagine and suit some people.

It does sound like its the design by the way you describe the folded material.

As DMG says its just not a suitable style for you.

As someone who has worked in a shoe retail for 11yrs I really would recommend that you wear shoes in the house for at least an hour before wearing them outside.

After that time you will know whether you are going to be able to wear them comfortably. If not, you have the option of returning them before you wear them outside.

I'd put it down to experience and chuck them on Ebay to get some of the money back.

    :)

  • thanks - thats good advice.

will sell them off on ebay :) at least then i dont have to be frustated each time I look at them
