You still need to put the truth, no matter how many times you've done the forms.

Ask him why he thinks he was mis sold.

Hi, my oh had a loan with alliance leicester, which i have an account number for.
Have done the ppi check with santander and when it has come back it is not showing this number.
Am i looking at the right company to check for ppi?
Also black horse were looking in to some account numbers, supposed to have heard back by 19th April and haven't heard back from them should i chase this up or again or give them some extra time. tia for any advice

Santander merged in A&L in 2013 yes. If the account was closed a while before then, it's possible the old closed accounts were not moved over. All you can do is send an SAR to them for a copy of old accounts and see if that turns up anything

You can ask Black Horse for an update but remember if their staff member did not sell you the loan (e.g. you got car finance from the dealer) then they have no liability for the sale so may well reject it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Black Horse are on the go slow. They have a few issues
1 - a good load of their loans were not sold by Black Horse staff but by third parties. They need to ascertain if yours is one they sold or a third party sold
2 - they have a lot of recently obtained data which is not easily accessible and takes time.
3 - they are understaffed for the level of work required.

They will deal with it but you need to be patient.
