Zika Virus Question

Hi —
My wife is 14 weeks pregnant and we're planning a Babymoon in April. We'd like to visit the US and were hoping to visit San Diego for a few days and fly back to London from there.
However, although San Diego is classed as no risk area for Zika virus, the city borders directly with Tijuana in Mexico which is high risk. The city centres are a mere 20 miles apart.
My wife is adamant it's fine but i just don't want to risk it. Am i being over cautious?

What?0 -
Sure... a babymoon, one last blow out before the big drop!0

I would consult a doctor, but if you're staying in the city centre then you should be fine0

Fair enough, personally I wouldnt want to be on an 11 hour flight when 6 month pregnant but each to their own.0

A couple of airlines won't let you fly that late into the pregnancy without a note from the doctor, just make sure you check the airlines terms before you book

Just visit the coast further north of San Diego.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

What advice has your GP given?0

Tijuana is classed as high risk, but only because the whole of mexico below 6500 feet is.... the closest recorded transmission is 80 miles south of san diego, and there have been no transmissions of zika in the usa for the past year so all in all it is relatively safe.... I do think i would be cautious in your shoes though. and if going, stay away from damp areas like lakes, cover up between dusk and dawn and get a good ( pregnancy friendly) mosquito spray
