Hyperoptic - thumbs up!

Hi there,
I just want to leave some positive feedback about the small fibre-only internet access company, Hyperoptic. My good news won't help everybody, I'm afraid, 'cos they seem to specialise in supplying newly built apertment blocks, like mine, here in Bristol. You can see if you qualify easily on their website, by popping in your postcode.
However, that won't deter me from telling you good folks that I've been very pleased with all aspects of their service, that is:

• contact both by phone & email
• service speed and bandwidth
• price.

I took their barginatious introductory offer of 1 Gbps for a tenner a month (Yes, you read that right...) and have just now switched to a slower speed tariff, to benefit from ongoing charges in the region of £20 a month. (see their website for their up-to-date charges).
Their phone support staff are polite & effective, they've done what I've asked them to, quickly and the broadband connection itself is exactly what they say it'll be. Not at all the sort of service I got from Virgin, at all! Hyperoptic are fully fibre, don't want to sell you a phone package (although they list them...) and don't do sports. Just fast connection speeds. Can recommend them, although just to be clear, not everyone will be eligable - I understand that, so don't get on my case if you're not eligable... Just trying to spread the Lurv.
Put it this way, nearly all my neighbours have switched away from BT and VMC, in favour of Hyperoptic.

I didn't have the same positive experience as you mentioned.

Field engineer just come to install the broadband/switch and mentioned there were electrical works required to take the wires from communal corridor/ceiling on to my new flat. As they are not anymore certified to provide these services they suggested to contact a private electrician to do the works. This had an overall impact on the convenience of the offer

That's a shame, Espresso :-( Have you fed that back to Hyperoptic? Back when I first ordered the service, I had a number of questions to ask and their staff were really helpful when I rang them.
The installer who ran the cable into my flat from the common cable in the ceiling of the shared corridor was in & out in a jiffy and did everything needed to complete the job. In fariness, the installers are probably sub-contracted and their certification may differ from local company to company.

Hearing of others experiences you don’t need to contact them as a year before they install you’ll be getting weekly spam junk mail trying to get you to pre-sign-up. Once installed you’ll get multiple spam junk mail every week for at least a couple of years trying to get you to sign up.

They seem to have taken a huge chunk out of Virgin Media’s ‘harassment marketing’ strategy playbook.

Their estimates, of when the service will become active in your building are crap. In one place I was waiting for 3 years for "within next 6 months". When they finally arrived I used them for about 6m, good service, then moved out. As they didn't have service in my new place (same "within next 6 months" wait) they let me terminate the 12m contract at 6m with no penalties.

On the new place it took them 18m to connect the building. The engineers arrived literally the day we were moving out.

The point is, if they have the address already connected - good use them as they offer great service for a great price. But don't count on your future home having Fibre, just because Hyperoptic website states they are coming soon.

So you took an offer for £10 a month........and switched to a slower speed for £20.....:eek:

I have approached Hyperoptic to do a full building install for our development.

Currently a whole building of Exchange Only lines with no hope of BT/Openreach ever giving us something better!

My tenant had Hyperoptic retrofitted to their block of flats. Apparently fibre went as far as each hallway and if an occupant wants to subscribe, Hyperoptic comes and copper cables from hallway to in-flat router. Tenant called me for permission to cable it in. I was curious that the management company hadn't let owners know the service was newly in the building. They didn't seem to know anything about it, but a call to Hyperoptic confirmed it was true.

I agreed to the wiring being done so long as I was present during installation so I could ensure the cabling wasn't too unsightly (it'd probably have to route through some storage spaces). In the end tenant changed their mind and went for 'fibre' from the cabinet via the telephone wire.

Seems likely the copper cables will be Cat6 which is entirely capable of supporting 10 Gigabit at the lengths involved (and ten times what Hyperoptic supply). Therefore nothing to worry about.
