Please read this, its not just a case of SCART to HDMI, you're converting an analog signal to a digital one and so you need a special box to do it:

Note other providers do similar technology, I link only for the background information.0 -
I assume that you want to connect your TV with an HDMI socket, to a DVD or VCR with a SCART socket, is that correct?
This is complicated by the fact that you are connecting an analogue device (SCART-socket DVD/VCR) to a Digital TV. This should fit the bill:

There are many more cables and converters, including cables sold as HDMI-to-SCART. These do not work! They do not have the hardware to convert digital to analogue. Note that this is the connection route you need: digital to analogue, HDMI to Scart. The device I linked to, does this the right way.
Good luck!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

You've pointed the OP towards an HDMI to scart adaptor, when surely he needs a scart to HDMI one?
These things tend to only be one way, so important to get the right one.

Also OP, you might find your TV has some sort of analogue input, maybe even a mini scart socket, which would negate the need for a relatively expensive solution like this.0 -
I've just bought and installed one of these to connect a Humax with only a scart to a TV with HDMi - the picture is much better.

Can you tell us make and model of the device you're trying to connect to the TV, and of the TV itself?0 -
I looked at this for a scart dvd player , decided in the end it was better (and probably no more expensive ) to upgrade to a blu ray player .
Particularly if the TV is ultra HDEx forum ambassador

Many thanks for the replies, I have an old Mitsubishi vcr/dvd player with a lot of memories on cassette and dvd. I have got the cable in the morning I will see if it works, not much hope though. Thanks again.

Perhaps time to begin transcribing them before the whole thing deteriorates.0 -
I got one of the adaptor boxes for about £12 last year to run Freeview on my computer monitor. They are about the size of a Swan matchbox but need an electrical supply (mains or USB but you have to specify which type when you order). Note there are two types: one type goes from HDMI to Scart and the other type goes from Scart to HDMI.0

if your VCR player has an aerial OUT socket, just connect to aerial IN on TV.
Then tune to the Analogue signal on TV0
