Debit card issues

I’m really annoyed with both my banks at the moment! Barclays cancelled and sent a new card because they suspected fraud. Their explanation was the card was used in two diffeeent areas in a week! This happens all the time due to where I live and work! And never had an issue before and have really struggled putting in a complaint about it.
But my main issue is with Halifax at the moment. In the last 6 months I’ve had to change my card 3 times because it stops registering in cash points. My last one is 3 weeks old, not been used in a cash point until today and again card isn’t recognised! I was withdrawing from a
Branch at the time so went in and they cannot explain why! Apart from a couple of tiny scratches on the card, which I do also have on my credit card and Barclays card and my Barclays card is a lot worse! They’ve come from cash machines as it’s only along the strip bit on both sides. So how can I resolve this and can I complain? I’ve had to get my 4th card issues only for it to happen again! It doesn’t matter which cashpoint either

Just get a Curve card. When your bank sends you a new card add it to curve then cut it up and throw it away. That's what I do! Never had a problem with Curve.0

So how do the scratches get on the card?
I take it that you have actually unlocked the Pin on the new cards?0 -
I wonder if you're keeping it somewhere where it's getting compromised? Some handbags have magnetic clasps, and they can affect the stripe on the back (I used to have terrible trouble with Tube tickets until I realised what the problem was).No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

I doubt any ATMs in the UK use the mag stripe nowadays (where a chip exists at least.)0 -
I don’t have anything on my bag, i only use a very small back pack
Type bag which only has my purse and keys in. With only zips. I don’t seem to have any trouble with other cards.
The scratches I think are from the cash points. They are consistent on my other bank cards but not other payment cards such as tv licence and reward cards so it’s not my purse which I have used for years aswell.
The bank confirms that cash machines use the strip. Not chip and pin that’s for payment terminals. And yes I’ve been using the card to pay for
Things so it is activated.0 -
It's probably down to how you keep your cards. Try keeping the Halifax card separately from the others to avoid any damage. I was once advised to never put two cards together back to back where the mag strips touch as this can cause damage. Might help.0

They are kept in separate compartments of my purse, none touching. I’ve always kept them that way it’s only the last 6 months and just with Halifax I have a problem with. I’m wondering if it’s a strip issue?0

No ATM in the UK uses the strip, they all use the chip. The UK has been primarily chip based for a long time. The bank has given you wrong information.
If the card does not work in the ATM, it is the chip that is damaged. What is the error message you see when you enter the card into the ATM? Is it just 'card not recognised?0 -
I can use the card to buy things on chip and pin so I know
The chips not damaged. It says this card isn’t recognised or unable to be used, depends on cash machine but does the same every time and spits it straight back out. Like it’s not a debit card.0 -
I think the bank might be correct in that most ATM's will use the magnetic strip to recognise the cards.
Why else would it be there now that 99.99% of transactions are done by chip and pin or contactless?0
