Getting Sky Installed

I've had nowtv in the past and didn't really like it. would much rather have a sky box.
I have to abide by my landlords rules else it will just go against me wouldn't it ?
My housing association provides one communal dish for 12 flats. I have Sky, we have the socket ready to just plug and play Sky TV. However did have to have an adapter fitted to where the feed comes in the electrical box to get Sky Q but the housing okay that.
Someone else who lives in a flat I know has a communal dish which is really dated and does not even support Sky + so many residents have opted to put their own dishes up which has often resulted in complaints from some tenents because they look ugly. Some flats share dishes so four flats might use one dish... Only works really if they are not having multi-rooms. I had a row with the estate manager who said we could not put a dish up but the planning department said I could with planning permission so thats what we did. The housing management didn't do anything. Although Sky tried to connect another flat to our dish and we made them come and remove it because we didn't grant permission for them to use our dish. Especially since the tenant in question was one of those who complained they looked ugly. They've had their own put up now!0 -
I doubt 3 mini dishes on a block of 6 flats are communal. Sounds like 3 flats have done what they wanted, having not got the response from the landlord they wanted/needed. Sky would normally install 70 to 80cm dish's in a communal set up that requires 8 plus cables, along with a Quattro LNB and a multi-switch amplifier. But be careful about doing your own thing as the landlord can make you put right any damage they think has been caused by your installation.0

Thanks everyone. I decided to get it installed next month. I'm happy to pay to have it taken down if I leave the property and to put it on the back/side where it's not visible ( right next to the other dishes )
Do I need written consent or will they take my word for it ?0 -

Sky don't check, if you say you want a dish on that wall they'll just stick it on that wall if its safe to do so and it'll be able to "see" the satellites.
As to taking it down when you move, don't bother. If you do move and there's already a dish at the new house, just use that one. The only exception will be if its an older Sky+HD LNB (the "microphone" bit on the end of the arm that looks at the dish itself) as these aren't Q compatible. But you can worry about that nearer the time.0 -

Thanks !
Do Sky still issue Sky+ HD boxes or have they been completely replaced with Sky Q ?0 -

My understanding is that they no longer supply them. New customers get a Q box at the outset of the contract. But I stand corrected if this is not so.0

New customer = SkyQ, end of discussion.
Current Sky+HD customers get badgered towards Q but if the box is new enough (the DRX890 or DRX895 - only differences are hard drive size and wireless) it's still supported, otherwise you can replace the boxes yourself off eBay or similar. Sky don't do this new anymore.
Anything older is probably still supported to a degree but all the shiny new technologies and features are not going anywhere near them.0 -
Thanks everyone.
I read the terms and conditions and it says if a cable longer than 20meters is required which it shouldn't be, i Have to pay extra. Do i pay on the day or will it just come out of my bill ?
Did a measurement and it would be a maximum of 13 or 14meter so should be fine0 -
I'm on the second floor, this shouldn't be a problem for the installation should it ?0
