What do you mean by top-up fee? You get charged 0.65% when using amex on curve?

Amex works different to other cards... You have to top-up a wallet, this topup costs 0.65% unless you upgrade to to a monthly subscription, which I'm unsure I can reveal much more abour being in the Amex beta.

You then set the Amex wallet as your payment method and money is deducted when you spend.

But yes, using Amex on Curve will cost you money, it's not free.

I have a metal card (Chase United Presidential Plus) and have had people comment on the weight of the card while paying.... however in the UK, you rarely hand over your card, so I wonder - does this really make a difference between metal and plastic? I suppose for curiosity reasons this is fine, comparing different markets :)

I've had a curve card for 6 months. and the whole time it has been "we will accept AMEX very soon!" "as in a matter of weeks!"

    I wouldn't hold your breath.

Also I don't see how it can make business sense for them to accept AMEX.

Say you spend £100. Curve will charge the merchant 1.5% but AMEX will charge curve 3%
Curve loose money on every transaction. Unless AMEX are charging curve less than curve are charging merchants but I really don't see it. AMEX charging less than Mastercard? hmmm. nope. It would set a very dangerous precedent for AMEX and severely cut into their profit. They would have to drastically cut back on the rewards they offer. Very odd one.

    Wise words, in hindsight!

When I tried to use my Amex card in lidl a few days ago I was told they don’t accept it.

They didnt tell any of the staff, they just changed the label on the card terminal showing amex, even the management had no idea
