Apparently on the metal cards the RF part for the contactless is visible and not covered
    Who told you this?

Having looked at images of a few (but not all) of the cards in post 1, none of those card images have a contactless mark and the descriptions of those cards makes no mention of the cards having a contactless capability.

I imagine the expectation is that the card holder will use either Apple Pay or Google Pay for contactless payments.

The UK issued Amex Centurion card is made of plastic not metal and the income/spend figures stated are pure myth.

Nah they aren't. They are invitation only charge cards which include stuff like free plane tickets, personal shoppers, annual free hotel rooms. There is a known annual fee of £2200 and joining fee of £2500. They are absolutely not given to just anyone and the minimum spend/net worth is not only reliable (based on people who have them) but is obvious that they wouldn't be giving all this free stuff away to anyone even if they were high end spenders.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

An Amex Centurion cardholder shopping at Aldi?!?

You must eat a lot of food in order to meet the £200k+ spend while shopping at Aldi!

    Well sometimes Lidl as well:rotfl:

If you don't have one already get yourself a Curve card, they will support Amex VERY soon (as in the next few weeks apparently) allowing you to use Amex in those odd places that don't take it.

I've had a curve card for 6 months. and the whole time it has been "we will accept AMEX very soon!" "as in a matter of weeks!"

    I wouldn't hold your breath.

Also I don't see how it can make business sense for them to accept AMEX.

Say you spend £100. Curve will charge the merchant 1.5% but AMEX will charge curve 3%
Curve loose money on every transaction. Unless AMEX are charging curve less than curve are charging merchants but I really don't see it. AMEX charging less than Mastercard? hmmm. nope. It would set a very dangerous precedent for AMEX and severely cut into their profit. They would have to drastically cut back on the rewards they offer. Very odd one.

Curve are charging 0.65% for each topup transaction.

Given I make 1MP on my Amex Gold or 1.5 Avios on my Premium BA, I don't mind the small 0.65% fee to use my Amex for places that don't take it. I've put £2.7k towards a car, so it's helped! I also pay my Council Tax with it too!

I'm guessing Amex & Curve have their own agreement as it enables Amex to have their consumers use the card in places that don't take Amex enabling them to collect more card fees than usual.

Also, co-branded cards are subject to the interchange fee (eg. BA Amex) so Curve will actually be making a profit for each co-branded card as the fee will be less than 0.65%.

What do you mean by top-up fee? You get charged 0.65% when using amex on curve?
