Anyone else get this scam call today?

i don't think I'm allowed to post the phone number, so I'll just say it starts with "077" and ends with "60".

I Googled it and found it was a scam from someone pretending to offer help sorting debt problems.

The reason I'm posting about it here is that I'm trying to work out if they got my number from doing comps. I'm fairly confident that I've only used my mobile number when entering a few radio, Bauer Media comps. So I thought I'd ask if others doing these comps have had the same scam call today. If not, I guess it's probably more of a random thing.

I enter those radio comps as well and not had a call from that number today.

I had a call from an 0151 number the other day and when I try and call it back it says the number is incorrect, dunno what that was about.

Not had anything else though.

followed by 191 by any chance?

Not had any calls ever on the mobile number I use for competitions (had some on a previous number but that had other use as well).

Your number doesn't need to have come from anything you have done as there are systems that just call random numbers and others that "spoof" the caller id so it shows a different number to the one that is really calling (obviously not bothered about the legalities of what they do)

Suddenly I have had 3 days of approx 5 calls a day from either "windows technical dept" or "Bt broadband" to say my internet is being cut off.


Both are scam calls easily spotted by the fact I have a Mac and don't use BT.


I instantly block the number but more seem to be coming through, they can call me as much as they want I haven't got a penny for them to con outta me so they are wasting their time!

I'm getting scam calls from Virgin Media all of a sudden on comping phone, so we've all hit a rogue one, or there's been a data breach somewhere.

I have experienced both of these this week. On Tuesday my son had that 0151 191 number (marked Liverpool), his heart leapt as he's been waiting to hear from Liverpool university so thought it was something to do with that but it rang off before he could get to it, and said incorrect number when he tried to ring it back. Googling the number didn't bring anything up.

As for the mobile number, yes I had that this morning, missed the call, tried to call back in case it had been anything important, but it just beeped and ended the call. when I googled that number, it mentioned about recorded messages offering to write off debts etc, so I've just blocked the number now.

It could be that somewhere along the line a competition host has sold numbers, but as for the landline number, my son has never entered a competition in his life so I doubt his number could have been found that way....

Misslayed

Obvious junk has been landing in my iCloud inbox in the last couple of weeks - hot totties who want to date me! My son mentioned it was happening to him too, so I think there must have been a data breach somewhere. I've had the calls on my mobile kindly offering to help me sort out my debt before the bailiffs arrive too. The numbers have been spoofed, one was from a bakers in Ottery St Mary allegedly.

Been getting a couple of calls from 0151 number, and when answered they just hang up. Very annoying!!

It's to my burner comping number

Must be spoofed to look like a mobile number
