Hi there,
I am in the process of selling my current home to move into a new house. I briefly went over my credit card limit with Barclays for one day unnoticed. It is now back in limit - I intend to pay off a huge part of my balance when I seek my house. I have also a mortgage application approved with the Halifax for my new house. This is a new build and not ready until a few months. Will this stupid oversight on my behalf affect my already approved application? My credit score was normally good
I'm worried sick that my own stupidity with affect our new mortgage application fir our house. We aren't due to move until a 3 months after seeing my house as its a new build.
Advice please to calm my nerves on my own stupid mistake.

It's done now, so no point in worrying. It may not even get reported to the CRAs, depending on timings.
Try to reduce your balance over the next few weeks. Bring maxed out is the more concerning issue, but something you can fix.0 -
So this is a complete guess but I would suggest that mortgage lenders will be looking at A: Have you been paying your current mortgage on time every month? B: Can you afford to get this mortgage? As ZX81 says being maxed out will to some extent affect point B.
I know people who have had a messy CC history but stellar mortgage history and they have had no problems getting further mortgages. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
