Samsung A5 Phone message tone help

I am in the process of setting up my new phone and placing custom notification sounds on my contacts. I did it all fine by going to each contact, edit , scrolling down to ringtones and under there was messages. I did them all but now they have changed and the drop down for adding message tone is no longer there.
I can still change ringtones
I also changed the clock screen and that changed overnight ( maybe an update?)
I would be grateful for any advise please
