TSB are not the only ones who don’t understand how JISAs work. I had a bad experience with Coventry Building Society. If the financial institutions don’t understand the rules about ISAs and JISAs, what chance is there for the general public to understand them?

You answered your own question. If I can't do it online then I have to go in and TSB was offering best rate at the time and as we are known to them already less hassle.
Wow - what would more hassle look like, compared with an institution that takes no less than six months to deal with a legitimate complaint about its poor staff/training? They must love customers like you who are loyal to that degree!

To be honest in part its going to be the satisfaction of rubbing their noses in it. Also given its only £1000 being put in the £150 compensation is a nice return for 6 months.

...and maybe the hope they mess you around further for another £150?

Apparently the TSB complaints team can be seen from space. Not just the moon - on distant unexplored planets they try and make sense of our human activity. Until they work out what is going on with TSB the invasion fleet are holding their positions.

    Final bit about this.

I went today into TSB armed with letter stating child was allowed to open account. Computer still says no.
I phoned up the complaints team again to ask why and they inform me the person who answered my letter got it wrong. Took 6 months for them to get it wrong but wrong it was.

I gently pointed out again that the Government website, every other banks. All the money forums are pointing to them being wrong. They have reopened the complaint.

Meantime I spend 10 minutes online and opened a junior isa with Tesco bank offering 3.1%. I did ask TSB about a transfer but they tell me that cannot happen as to transfer the money they first have to open one and they can't open one as he isn't allowed to have one. I did point out that how can he have one already if he wasn't allowed to have one.
