    Morning everyone,
Another one here who didn’t sleep so well, felt like I was tossing and turning all night. Must be tired as I misread Bozwood’s post and thought she had lost one of her teeth at fat club :rotfl:
Need to get over the yard this morning to see Lu as have a hair appointment this afternoon, my hairdressers are down a side street near a biggish shopping centre so will pop in to the Bo*ts there and pick up some shampoo, I like their own brand cheapie job.
Thinking of Snoozer’s Steve, Holly, Polly and hope they have a better day.
Hugs to SO, hope you get a call back soon.

    Take care folks x

Brrr, good morning everyone, it's a cold one! -3C here. I haven't looked outside yet...

SO, I have one offspring who ignores me, doesn't acknowledge gifts etc, but at least she's on the other side of the world. I would find it a lot harder if she was living only 15 miles away. Her sister is frequently in touch, she's the one who had the miracle IVF baby recently.

I think, not personal experience but from observation, that the old rhyme sums up what can happen with sons:

A daughter's a daughter for all of your life
A son's a son till he gets him a wife.

Sending huge hugs. You really are the meat in the generational sandwich, not a pleasant experience, and you're caring for your DH too. But here you're in good company and I greatly appreciate and admire your fortitude and spirit, persevering with care and thoughts for others in our Old Style circle of friends. You're a star xxx.

Today I'm having a bit of a long lie, then making the soup I didn't make yesterday - too cosied up to stir myself. So once I'm up and dressed I'll make a point of not sitting down until I've got things underway :)

This afternoon there's a craft group which uses people's cast offs, however I'm taking my knitting in case the tutor doesn't show up, which sometimes happens. A quiet evening thereafter, bliss.

Food - a green smoothie for brekkie, the soup of the day for lunch, and I fancy a stir fry this evening, so we'll see what can be done with today's veg box items.

Hoping everyone can have the best day possible. Keep warm and cosy, wherever you are, folks. xxx
  • Morning everyone and goodness, it is cold and icy here. Lots of black ice, last night OH and Isaw a man come round tge corner on his bike, skid and end up underneath the bike. Nothing broken but it was a mercy nothing was coming in the other direction.

I would have planned to go out today but it really is too cold for me, am contemplating putting the heating on now and this seems to be getting a bit earlier each day. I'll wait until OH gets up then it will at least be warming up two people and thus more economical. Or something.

Sending positive thoughts to all those who need them today.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) to all of those who need one, and one to everyone else.....

Its a bitterly cold morning -4 we have had a heavy frost and there have been accidents on the A46, good job I do not have to be going out, just would not go........

Sun is shining but very little heat in it. I have turned the heating up a bit and left the curtain drawn over the front and back doors...brrrrr.....

Nothing much going on today, keeping in the warm. If its the same tomorrow will not be going to Aldi, will leave it till friday. Do not need a lot but must stock up in case I am not able to drive after I have my eye done on Monday.

Stew for supper, just 2 bits of the lemon drizzle cake left for dessert.

SO, weemidgie and Rosyred, I'm sorry about your thoughtless children. Two of my brothers were like that with my parents, so much so that one of my sister-in-laws and her two (grown-up) children didn't attend either of my parents funerals. I suppose it would have been hypocritical for them to come as they hadn't been near my parents in years. I know mum found it hurtful ven though she put a brave face on.

Dumpling, well done on the determination. I succumbed to chocolate yesterday but I am not beating myself up about it. Steve was quite sick last night despite taking the two anti-sickness meds he'd been prescribed. I ended up ringing the helpline because we'd been told he shouldn't be sick, a nurse is supposed to ring us this morning but I'm not holding my breath. Three times now we've been told a specialist nurse would ring and they haven't. I know Addenbrookes is a lot busier than Bedford but the nurses at Bedford seem to understand how important it is to do what they say they will.

Hopefully the sickness seems to have abated but I'm having difficulty persuading him to eat. Laura is coming home for the night so I'll get her on the case if he's still reluctant because she can wind him round her little finger.

I'm feeling very tired today, hopefully I'll get a second wind soon.
  • Morning All,

Dumpling I do slimming world and I have an options hot chocolate every night. It’s only a couple of syns and it takes away the chocolate craving.
To those having family problems 1 understand, I have a sister who lives 5 mins away from my mum, and I live about an hour away but we see each other all the time and ring and text, however I have a brother who lives in Aberdeen and he never rings or comes to see us. It upsets my mum a lot as he’s the youngest and was very spoilt as a child, and we did everything for him. He went to Aberdeen to uni and then got a well paid job in an oil company, he thinks we just want him for his money but all mum wants is a phone call and a card occasionally. I just feel for her but my sis and sisters kids all do what we can for her.
Had a productive day yesterday doing housework, today a more relaxing day, have to go into the next town for a few things and having Shepard’s pie for tea. Still very cold here but no snow, we rarely get snow here as I live in a seaside town.
Hope everyone has a good day.

  • It's still flippin' cold here but we are having blue sky and sun which lifts the spirits a bit. No heat in the sun sadly but it's nice to see it! It encouraged me to get off my arris and tackle a few jobs. I've just been going through my freezer inventories and getting them up to date. It's too easy to forget to cross things off! I'm still trying to get stocks down and, as yet, not given in to panic mode thinking I might starve if there's a siege! It's difficult getting out of the habit of being a food hoarder!

I was sorry to read of all the family estrangements on here. It's all so sad. SO I do hope your DS returns your phone call.

I have narrowed the DGDs' tea down to a stuffed crust pizza with french fries. That'll get me a few Brownie points! Must remember to replace it when I shop tomorrow. Just a cheese and tomato one left out there now. I shall have fish I think, it's less calorific!

Hope you enjoy the rest of the afternoon folks and that SNOOZER's STEVE feels a bit better and can face eating something. Take care all xx

    Afternoon all,
Still plenty of snow here but the main roads are ok.It did take ages for the car and van to defrost this morning.DH & I had eye tests booked n town,DH came stomping in & said I'd have to cancel as he'd somehow broken the wipers and they werent working.DS1 went and had a look and got them going :T,my appt was 1st so he dropped me off and then went to park- just made it in time. Both need new specs,DH has varifocals and I need a special lens in 1 of mine so we're about £400 odd down, ouch.
Snoozer, sorry Steve has been sick, hope it improves.By the way youre getting your RosyReds and Scarlet(Ribbons) mixed up :rotfl:My problem is the opposite as both DSons are back living at home and I see them too much ;), but I know that is much better than not at all or rarely and I do sympathise with those on here who dont have much contact.
DGC for tea,DS1 and I are going to school shortly for DGD,and DS2 is picking DGS for a change as he complains Daddy doesnt pick him up.It's just that when he's at work its nearer for DGD.I've just made a few krispie cakes for them.Cottage pie for tea.
The snow is still dusting all the trees across the road,it looks lovely, but the temp in the car this morning was -5.I lit the logburner when we got in,it felt so cold in here.DH treated us to lunch in a little cafe in town before we came home.I think his cough is easing up a bit now.
Right better go,take care in the ice and snow xx

Am now in Glasgow, the roads were completely clear though there’s snow on the fields and verge. It was a particularly glorious journey as the trees were still sprinkled with snow and the views of the snow-topped Restvwere so beautiful. So different from yesterday.

I’ve had some soup and a handful of nuts and now aiming for a cup of tea.

Hugs all round, they help keep you warm!
