This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning :)

Cold here today so probably icy too..haven't popped my head out to see yet but thats the forecast.

Bit later leaving today as the course is far closer. Dangerously close to Costco in fact ...wish they were all that close yesterday was not the most pleasant drive with freezing rain and country roads with no lighting. For some reason they chose a venue in the middle of Wales with no decent access roads. Nanny I nearly took up your offer of the room:D All in all though a great day lovely people and a WI prepared lunch :) Back to car park sandwiches today and quite frankly quite a dull course so will need to worrk hard to liven this one up.

SO I am so sad for you for my friend. Little tear for you yesterday. You deserve some good fortune soon you really do :A

Should be back at a good time tonight to be able to get some food so will grab something out the freezer in a minute.

Right best try to add some magic to advanced negotiation skills :rotfl: wish me luck

Have a great day everyone

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black, cold and a frost I think.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, mash, kale, carrots, green beans, peas and gravy, ice cream/xmas cake for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be having but I'll organise it this morning.

Work yesterday was manic to start off with and that lasted until lunchtime when it calmed down. Have today off to use up last of annual leave, not working again until Monday. I'll be taking my car to the garage first thing as it's being serviced and MOT'd, has a problem that they need to sort for me too, desperately hoping it's not going to cost the earth but it needs to be done, so just have to get on with it. I have a long "to do" list that needs my attention so will get stuck in.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:
It's very cold here but no sign of any of the white stuff thank goodness :). Steve has just left for work all togged up in his hat and gloves as he has to stand around waiting for a bus. He had his pre-op yesterday which thankfully he passed with flying colours so his cataract surgery can go ahead in a couple of weeks. I am looking forward to having him home for a few weeks while he recuperates and he is going to be job hunting while he is off as he is a bit fed up with where he works.

My computer has been playing up for the past few days so Steve is going to upgrade it for me on the weekend, so if I disappear before then it's just computer issues. I am so reliant on it for all my online shopping etc.

I have a quiet day planned, my friend rang me late last night to say she had been taken into hospital so I am waiting to hear from her what is going to happen next. I think she said she was going up to London to a BUPA hospital today or tomorrow but the line was bad and it was hard to make out everything she was saying.

We are going to have chicken thai green curry for dinner to night. This is Phoebe's favourite so I am going to be in her good books that's for sure. My sugar cravings are still very strong but so far I have managed to ignore them. I almost baked a cake yesterday 'for the family' but I knew I wouldn't have been able to resist a slice so I gave up on that idea. This is hard but I am very determined, more so than I think I have ever been so I am just going to keep persevering until I get healthy.

Hugs to snoozer and Steve, hope his chemo is successful and the side effects are minimal xx
Nelski, hope your course goes well. I was very envious of the thought of the WI lunch, my imagination is running riot :rotfl:xx

Silver Oldie, massive cwtches to you, I'm sorry you feel so sad about your lack of family visits. I hope they come to see you soon xx
camelot, congrats on the 3lb loss, we won't be able to see you from sideways on soon :) xx

Hugs as always for all the poorly, worried and those who would just like one, I always have armfuls to spare. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all, thanks for starting us off Nelski.

Looks and feels cold this morning. There's a yellow weather warning in place for ice. I'm going to wait a while before going out on the roads.

A burst water pipe near DM's has meant no water for her street and surrounding parts. Two of her neighbours brought her bottled water so I'll take more with me though I suspect / hope it'll be fixed today. The burst caused flooding in some streets. It's at a major junction so is causing chaos there too.

My thoughts are with you all, good, bad or middling. Happy Wednesday folks.
  • Morning folks and thanks NELSKI for kicking off. Brrr another cold one, we should be getting acclimatised soon.

Just as I thought I was sleeping a bit better along comes another tossing 'n turning night. Bah.

Nothing on the agenda for today until the 2 younger DGDs arrive at different times after dancing. It'll be a late tea followed by a sleepover. DD on an early shift tomorrow. Eldest DGD is staying at her dads. It's a toss up between scampi and chips or pizza. Probably the latter. Tub of celery soup out defrosting for my lunch, which I will have with a toastie.

I must put my mind to some neglected jobs today. It's too easy to get ensconced in front of the fire, feet up, watching rubbish tv in this horrible cold weather.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. And of course those undergoing/waiting for treatment. Special hug for SILVER-OLDIE as life isn't being very kind to her. Take care all xx

Brrr, it's freezing this morning, the heating is on until I leave, I might leave it on low all day as it took ages to heat up last night when I got home. So glad I have the stove to cosy up to but I'm running dangerously low on logs so had better top up.

What determination dumpling, well done you. By the way I bet you give the best hugs!
SO - contact your DS, at least you will have tried.

Hugs to those in need, hope Steve hasn't had too bad a night.

Off for a shower and another day at work, at least the heating was on yesterday, in fact it was quite warm!

    Take care. XX

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Nelski

Not much sleep last night. Going to mother's care home this morning, hopefully I have made the choices she would want for end of life care. Need to get it written and signed.
I've bought Mum a dairy cream eclair, maybe she'll like me today :D

Had a phone call from Work and Pensions yesterday, regarding mother. They have asked for a couple bank statements from nearly 4 years ago.

Had no answer from DS, DiL so I have left a message. They both work and live busy lives so maybe they will get back to me soon.

Thoughts are with those finding life difficult, especially Holly, Poppy, taff, snoozer's Steve.

    Take care all

  • Good morning, and a very cold one it is here - thick frost and outdoor thermometer says -3.

Yesterday wasn't a bad day, cold but bright.

SO, I was sorry to read about your DS and family, I know this seems to be a longstanding situation, and it is very hurtful
    .
It strikes a chord with me because we have family on the other side of the world and these days unless we make contact we hear nothing..Now, we know they can't "drop in", but emails are not answered, texts occasionally are, there are never any birthday cards from them, or Christmas acknowledgments. We send money for the childrens' Christmas and birthday presents, but rarely have any thanks - we ask if they've received it into their bank account just so that we know that it hasn't gone astray. If we didn't ask we would never know.

We used to facetime or skype, but it gradually stopped. I know there's a big time difference, but when we texted to suggest it , it was never the right time, they were going out, they had people coming etc. When we ring, which I must admit is only occasionally now, Ds sounds pleased and chats, but it all has to come from us. We used to ring every week, but don't now, maybe we should make more effort but as I say it all has to come from us.

They lead busy lives I know. I don't know what the answer is.

Sorry for that mammoth moan folks. I don't usually unburden myself in that way, just that SO's situation is similar. In fact in a way it's worse because her DS ins not far away.

Anyway enough of that, hope I haven't depressed anyone. I'm going to the doctors' this morning to get the results of the blood test I had so see why my arm went doolally earlier this week. It's slowly improving so we'll see.

Hope evryone has as good a day as they can - keep warm!

    Take care folks
  • Good morning everyone,

Yesterday was a productive day. As you know, I make calls to Asia and the language barrier is really difficult. European countries (fortunately for us Brits) tend to speak excellent English but it - in my experience so far - doesn't seem the be the same in on the East. Anyway, by the time it gets to 9am I can't call anymore because it's 6pm in Japan and everyone is away home. The rest of my day was busy, finished at 4, went to the gym, home for dinner and in bed for 9!!!

Bitterly cold this morning. Had to wait for the car to defrost whilst I sipped my coffee. Been to the gym this morning in an attempt to run the 3.5 miles that my app is suggesting but it was a struggle. Anyway, I got football training tonight so I'll make up for it.

The rebate cheque from the council was cashed yesterday and cleared today. Unfortunately £75 of it is going straight back out as I need to pay £50 to register for the team I am playing for plus a £25 deposit for the kit.

Right, I must get on with things. Stay warm and have a nice day everyone.

Gers - Careful it hasn't turned to ice given the temperatures!
    Bozwood - Good luck today.
