I'd love to know how they came to that conclusion given that all fuel in the UK has to meet the same minimum specification and the quality of even the cheapest lowest spec UK fuels is superior to that in other nations, even in their branded fuel stations, and they're not complaining of the fuel wrecking their cars. And I don't even know why they're claiming all the entire fuel system would need replacing.
There was an issue at some Tesco filling stations a few years ago in the Essex area I think. Was all over the news at the time.0 -
How many threads on this now..?0

It really all depends on the car (turbocharged or N/A)
With turbocharged cars, the premium, premium fuels such as shell v power do tend to be better
That wasn't the question - the question was about supermarket fuel. My car runs on Sainsburys Super Unleaded just fine. That's supermarket AND premium (97RON, not 95RON).0 -
Because it was all over the news that a certain Tesco (can’t remember which one) was selling contaminated fuel, which subsequently damaged a lot of engines.
So there was a problem which could have happened to any petrol station branded or supermarket. That is hardly the same as supermarket fuel causing problems because you've been using it for years is it?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Tesco seem to have more than their share of problems with contaminated fuel, there was the time they made oxygen sensors go on back order when they had diesel contaminated petrol at a couple of large stations.
I still buy Tesco petrol (or diesel), I simply keep the receipt as proof that I bought it from them if there is another problem.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Both my two vehicles, one petrol, one diesel & both engines are noticeably quieter when using branded Service Stations, BP, Shell etc.
Supermarket fuel tends to make 'em "rattly" very technical description I know but it is the best way to describe it.0 -
Anyone ever had issues with supermarket fuel e.g Asda? Is it worth paying more for premium fuel?
No I've never had any issues.
No it's not worth paying any more for "premium".
100k miles (at least) in my current car, predominantly fuelled by Asda diesel.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

The fuel has to meet certain specifications when refined and sold by the oil companies but in some instances, (such as when the fuel is being sold to supermarket chains), the additives that are put in by some companies happen after the fuel has been refined and certified as meeting the requirements.
According to my neighbour (a delivery driver for Sainsbury) these additives are added to the tankers during the filling of them or they can be added when the fuel is being delivered into the bulk storage tanks at the fuel stations so all it would take is for a human error to occur for too much of an additive to be used or for the wrong type of additive to be put in a certain type of fuel.0 -

Which is what supposedly happened in the few Tesco cases we know about.
Could happen to most any petrol station, but the media do enjoy airing famous names dirty washing, also a Tescos station can sell a lot of fuel by the time the first car grinds to a halt.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
