Sold house and now having to rent advice

Okay so I sold our house. We have attempted to buy two houses one went to probate the other we were gazumped. I’m afraid it’s time up for us and we have to move to renting. There is nothing else on the market we like and we’re praying something better comes along in a few months and we will be in a better buying position and not feel the need to rush bids as we have upward pressure.I have rented before our home but now I have a infant and baby. I’m looking for anyone who is or in a similar position to give advice.

Been a long time ago but we found our estate agent very helpful in finding us rental accommodation especially as the sale of our house would have fallen through. Surprising how many estate agents own rented property but prefer not to let short term. Things may have changed but I doubt it.

We’re moving from a 4 bed and rentals appear to be mainly 3 bed semi’s without a garage. How much is storage? Do you only rent from EA or are there other sites for renters. I’m a bit overwhelmed. We haven’t exchanged contacts with our buyers yet but I don’t want to mess them around as they decent people and I wouldn’t want it done to me. I truely didn’t want to go to renting but we’ve just been very unlucky with the two property’s.
  • You have my sympathy, this is happening to us. I guess rent and wait till after brexit, may be a blessing in disguise.

    Hi
If you are moving from a 4 to a 3 bed then I would suggest it is a good time to declutter.
You could make some money towards your rent by selling stuff, after all one man's trash etc.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

Don't know where you are located but we have a local Facebook buy sell forum that also lists property to rent. My Daughter, who moved from the midlands, found a few property's that suited her using this forum site. We rented every time we had a company move using estate agents, not a problem as this was paid for by the company.

I pay about £150 for a garage sized storage unit in the West Midlands

Use google or duckduckgo to search for local storage facilities. Then ring for quotes. Remember to ask for discounts(eg based on length of contract or quotes from competitors).

But really I'd be delaying the sale in your position.

If it were me and it was going to be genuinely short term I would look for a short term rental where you aren't tied in, some seasonal holiday lets may be happy for you to go onto a monthly rolling contract out of season. (A relative did this).

How old is your youngest? Do you even need 3 bedrooms if they are still young enough to go in with you?

I would definitely use storage, and not have everything in the rental. Plus as others have said, use it as a great de cluttering time.

    Good luck.
  • My oldest is 3 then the baby. My maternity leave ends soon. Not the ideal situation for me. I’ve looked at short term let’s using rightmove and on the market but there isn’t any in my town. I’m totally confused as most rents are 6 months. But it can take around 3 months to get completion anyway and we haven’t seen any houses we like yet. When looking at renting is it better to rent something a bit more expensive to have more space and get luxurious we’re used to such as parking or is it better to go small and save money?
