This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning

Another mad early one for me ...todays trip is to Welshy Wales So i'll wave to taff and nan :) Not looking forward to the journey at all as the forecast is for ice and sleet. Expected the car to be solid again this morning but it seems OK. Least the thick fog from yesterday has lifted that was really scary to drive in and lasted all the way to Blackpool.

No time yesterday to play in the arcade so my 50p stayed safe :D Good day though and hope to get some more bookings for them. Food wise not so good I ate my sandwich but when I got home I was just too tired to bother so glad that todays company provide lunch...ill be starving by then :)

Hope you all have a great day :A

    Morning All

Be careful Nelski, the roads will be awful. The weather here last night was truly horrid, sideways rain, a howling wind and a temperature a giddy 3 degrees! Cold this morning but that seems to be about it.

We had no heating at work yesterday until 10am, I start at 8 so was absolutely frozen, took until I went in a warm bath when I got home to feel warm again. The poor children were cold too but at least they could run about, I was chained to the desk fielding phone calls from parents who seemed to have lost the ability to read the texts we were sending to keep them updated!

Anyway, the day got a bit better when I went to fat club, 3lb off so I was pleased with that.

Hope everyone's well, stay warm, dry and safe. Take care. XX
  • Thank you for starting today's thread Nelski and good morning everybody.

Still no snow and it is a bit dark to assess the degree of icings, hoping it is not too bad.

I am tired this morning - unusually for me, I couldn't get to sleep. I was reading and reached the point where you are really sleepy and the book stops making any sense so put the light off and the eyes spring open, brain back in gear. I have managed a few hours and can always have a nap if I need to.

Last night my DS decided that he wanted to make biscuits. They were not ready when I went to bed, because out of a massive batch, the first ones were cooked individually to get the temperature right - the oven temperature gauge has quite a distant relationship with reality. As my OH pointed out, dripping with sarcasm, do carry on because we all know gas us free. I was given a half biscuit yo try bit it was still a warm one and needed to go cold to crisp up. I've tried a small one just now. Delicious but half a pound of butter, a lot of golden syrup, brown sugar, tge entirety of my pecans, lots of peanut butter - you get the picture. Although a packet of biscuits is pretty inexpensive, I don't mind as it does give him a sense of satisfaction. However, I can't get my head around his insistence on making them on the sitting room table rather than the kitchen worksurface.

Today my plan includes an element of post biscuit cleaning up. He's washed up but the floor is a bit suspect.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning early risers,

Cold, dark and windy here in Manchester this morning.

Yesterday after work I nipped into the gym, made a quick dinner and went to bed for 9 but tossed and turned for a bit. Even woke up during the night for the toilet which is unlike me.

It's Tuesday, which is why I'm on the compute at this time of day, to make my calls to the Eastern side of the world. I'll finish a bit earlier, round 4pm and quickly go to the gym before heading home and attempting a poached cod recipe from Jamie Oliver.

Yesterday was NSD 13/17 and I see no reason why today won't be one either.

    Safe travels Nelski
    Well done camelot!!

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off, drive safely x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, cold but doesn't seem to have been a frost, although forecast says getting colder later, tonight and tomorrow.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I remembered to get the chicken portions out for tonight so they've defrosted and will be roasted later and served with mash, veg and gravy.

Work as expected started slowly but then went manic, possibility today will be the same but it's my early finish and I'm off tomorrow, so won't be working again until Monday. I have a large "to do" list though for the coming days, everything has built up and it's going to take some work to get it sorted but I'm going to write a list and I must get stuck in as everywhere needs attention.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning folks.

Yesterday's yellow weather warning didn't tell a true story. No snow here, just horrendous rain and wind arrived in the late afternoon. After my teaching session I drove up to Oban to meet a new colleague and also deliver some paperwork. The chap was really pleasant and (more importantly) competent to teach numeracy. :j

Luckily I arrived home just as the really bad rain started as I wouldn't want to be driving through it. All is quiet outside so far.

I had picked up some lovely fresh lambs liver on my travels so fried some of it have with my cauliflower cheese, a bit odd but so tasty. Before I left the house I'd set the washing machine going so all the clothes had to be hung up so, when I went upstairs I just stayed there, turned on the electric blanket so that the bed was toasty by the time I'd hung everything up.

Today I have to chain myself to the laptop, there's tons of paperwork to write up. :( Serves me right!

As for now, I'm sending out clouds of good vibes, happy Tuesday to everyone.
  • Morning folks and thanks NELS. Take care driving, Carol says there are lots of icy roads about.

It feels colder than ever this morning but at least we have escaped the snow - so far! I fully expected to see a covering when I got up as it was forecast for Northern hills.

Being Tuesday I am meeting my oldest buddy for coffee and cake this morning. We did mention staying out for lunch but that will be weather dependent 'cos if any sign of snow I shall head home. The buses up here are the first to stop running when it snows and my hip doesn't agree with walking up steep hills these days - especially in snow!

DD took the bag of mini shampoos and shower gels I had decluttered yesterday. She says they will be perfect for the showers at the DGDs swimming clubs.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. And particularly those undergoing/awaiting treatment. Take care all xx

Quick one from me as im running a bit late, our heating at work has not worked for weeks and weeks yesterday was 5 deg in the caf! we were cold all day and like Camelot I did not warm up all day till I got home and had a hot bath and put thick PJ's on and lit the fire, they are trying to get quotes from plumbers but so far they have said that they are all too expensive :(
meanwhile we are freezing !! Off to work again today so lets hope the weather is not quite as cold.

Sausage egg bacon for dinner tonight with some bread and butter so a nice easy dinner.

Hugs to all in need xx

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning all,

It's cold outside but at least it's stopped raining - it was battering down last night when we went to bed. We had an early night to make up for the wakefulness of the night of the eclipse.

I have two parcels of pre-loved plastic to post today and I'm going food testing which is always fun. By the time you've tried the samples and been given the expenses it's like being paid to have your (sometimes a bit strange) lunch.

    Safe driving Nels

Take care all of you :)

Good morning everyone, that's not so good with workplaces not being warm enough. I hope everyone's situations get sorted soon.

I went to yoga as the yellow weather warning was for snow on higher ground. However there was heavy driving rain, and I got overtaken by speeding lorries on the motorway which reduced visibility even with wipers on their highest setting. Fortunately the roads were less busy on the return journey.

Thinking of snoozer and Steve after his first chemo session yesterday. Sending virtual hugs xxx. And to everyone else who could do with them. I'm not very keen on this long fridge towards Spring, when it's cold and dark and often the weather's foul. However, I've seen snowdrops, and the first green shoots of daffodils are peeping through, always a sign that nothing lasts forever, and we'll be through the worst in a few more weeks.

Scrabble today, and then I need to search for new breakdown cover. I've been with AutoAid for a few years, but the price is creeping up.

Food - a banana and egg crepe for brekkie, soup for lunch (must get some out of the freezer), a veggie stir fry with nuts this evening. And tomorrow is veg box day, so I'll as usual be making soup this afternoon to make space in the fridge.

Wishing everyone the best day possible, keep warm and comfortable. xxx
