:eek:The recipe calls for it to be pulped so it's probably done the job for me. :rotfl:0 -
Best before dates on fruit and veg are not really needed, use your eyes, touch, and smell, like they did before we had dates on food. My fruit and veg lasts up to two weeks in my fridge after the date anyway.
I wonder if they are not dating things because they are fed up of people reaching to the back of the shelf and leaving all the shorter dates at the front, which then have to be reduced.

Ideally this would be the obvious thing to do, but as most so-called "fresh" food comes wrapped in plastic it's often just not possible. I voted with my feet some years ago, and I travel just that bit further to buy fruit and veg from the market.
The only money Tesco gets from me is from petrol, since it's the cheapest in the area.0 -

I can see through clear plastic bags. See if the food looks like it's rotting, see if it's becoming discoloured, going brown, or green, is there any mould on it, is it sprouting. I can squeeze the bags, are the contents squishy, soft, or bendy.
How can you tell how long ago the market produce has been picked, transported to the warehouse, transported by the market traders in their vans, to their stall. How long has it been sitting on their stall in the market. Possibly a week, maybe longer.
The only way to tell if you are buying edible food is by using your senses. There are no dates on fruit and veg in the market, unless it's in a plastic bag.

The idea is to stop food wastage as people throw vast quantities of perfectly good food away each year.
It's a small move but a good one.0 -

I certainly don't.
Yes, I always check under the available crate to find fresher items. On many occasions the crate below will have produce with a best before date 2 or 3 days longer. So why wouldn't you pick the fresher item? I do my shopping at the weekend and want to have produce that will last the whole week.
The bigger issue is Tesco's short-dated produce which makes this issue pertinent.0 -
They've done this to cover up their totally useless stock rotation. If it isn't either dated or unpackaged I won't buy. It isn't if I actually throw things away when they reach their best before, the last potatoes were 16 Oct.0

Just so you know my dad had been chatting to the fruit and veg guys I'm my local Mr t after they removed the used by dates and the advised him to check the side of the box as there's a label with the date (can't remember if it's use by or delivery thought) can't guarantee that the products haven't been mixed up but will give you an idea....Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0

Do we know why they have actually done it yet? To cover up being useless or to stop food waste?0
