Try to leave your glove compartment open. This can remind you to check other things like turning off the lights before leaving your car.

On our commercial vehicles we used to have a main cut-off button that worked on a timer, if there was no activity the timer would cut all power after 15 minutes.
Similar to an auto-shutdown of your radio, perhaps something like that could be fitted?
  • Maybe change the car for a more modern one , even my 2012 Picanto turns lights off with ignition.

You can get a solar charge for your car, this will help keep it topped up and so reduce the chances of the battery draining too much when you leave the lights on

You could also make sure your neighbours have your phone number and ask them to send you a text message if you leave your lights on. :)

    Park on a hill.
A car with a completely flat battery will not start if bumped down a hill. It needs enough power in the battery to work the engine management, fuel injection and fire sparks at the plugs and the charging system won't be providing that without the engine running.

It didn't even work on points and condensor ignition with carburettors, which needed far less battery power than a modern to run the ignition to fire the engine.

If you have access to a socket nearby then I can recommend one of these which works for me. Keeping a battery topped up is better than fully discharging/recharging constantly.
No particular recommendation for Argos though - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7604351
