Vc5 and the sale process
I sold my car today and I am aware you can notify Dvla via the website of the new keepers details. But they took my vc5 and said they would do it online.
I trust them as they are a motor vehicle trader , but there is always that doubt I never did it myself and I was stupid enough not to take the vc5 document number so I could do it myself,
Will writing a letter myself to Dvla notifying them of the sale be enough to ensure I have done my part ?
I know the buyer can do it as the purchaser using my vc5, but I just want to double up and make sure it gets done ASAP.

“I trust them as they are a motor vehicle trader” - even in mid-January, that must be a contender for Quote of the Year
You should have followed the instructions, and kept the V5C except for the section specifically for the new keeper.
Let’s assume they’re worthy of your trust, and notify the DVLA. You should then get confirmation within 3 weeks. If you don’t, contact the DVLA and explain.0 -
the garage will take time (if they can be bothered) , any VED left on car will not be returned to you ,.if car is seen on road , you get done for no insurance , when VED runs out , you get fine
the car may travel thru many dealers and auctions , the dealer may be out of the loop within days
you should have kept the yellow section of v5 , v5c/3 and filled in and posted ,
contact the dealer and arrange to collect it , with his sig on it and post off to DVLA0 -

incorrect , I am reading v5 as we speak
remove the YELLOW section , that is the TOP section in page 3 marked V5c/3 , sign it and get motor dealer to date and sign
POST THIS SECTION TO DVLA
GIVE THE REST OF THE V5 TO THE DEALER , DO NOT POST BACK0 -
Thank you, I’ll write a letter to Dvla and explain. They were a car dealers, but the purchase was solely for the owners son, so I am hoping they do it. They had insurance on the vehicle and I have cancelled my insurance today. They paid me fine with an invoice , just hope they register it online today0

try and contact them , get them to send you pic of ref number on front of v5 , tell them (insist) that you are going to do it online0

Selling a car without a V5C explained:
When selling without a V5, you’ll need to provide a bill of sale which includes all info for the new buyer to apply for a new logbook. That includes:
Vehicle make and model
Your car’s Reg
VIN plate number
Buyer’s full name
Date of sale
Signature of buyer and seller
Price and payment terms
The fact that the vehicle is ‘sold as seen’
The vehicle I have seen is insured, so they have done this already and I will have to follow the above protocol I notice, and I am just going to hope they have done it online as mentioned0 -
ok , I quoted for SELLING TO TRADER not member of general public
things are different for trade sale
SELLING TO A MOTOR TRADER
You must fill in section 9 of the V5C and send it to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BD – the motor trader does not require this section and should not keep it. You should then give the rest of the V5C to the motor trader. Remember it is your responsibility to ensure that section 9 is sent to the DVLA – this is the case even if the trader offers to do it for you. In the event that the motor trader keeps the whole of the V5C, you should send a signed letter to the DVLA that confirms who you passed the vehicle to (motor trader's details) and the date that this occurred.0 -
Forgive me for not being clear the sale was to an owner of a motor trader company ... but it was a private Sale, so he bought it privately for his own use not for the company.... sorry it got confusing there0
