My Gas Meter Reading - Help with working out total cost (KWH) please

Hi Guys,

I've just been stung by a massive bill from Npower which they classed as a 'catch-up' bill. I can't quite believe how much they are saying I now owe (over £1,000) last month I was only £220 in debt on my account!

With this in mind I want to work out my total gas consumption and cost myself since I moved over to NPower in Nov 17', then work this against what I've actually paid. Here are the figures...

I have a metric gas meter and below are my readings for the entire time I have been with NPower...

Reading Nov 17' - 77388

Reading Jan 19' - 81605

Total units used = 4217 (i assume this is right)

My standing charge is 21.85p a day (so comes to £91.77 over this time)

My cost per unit for this time was 2.736p

I've tried to do the calculation myself using the formula on the .gov site but I'm not sure i'm doing it right as it's coming out to over £4k.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Can you read the meter again please - be careful of the decimal point and ignore any numbers to the right in red.

As a rough guide multiply the consumption in m3 by 11.2. That gives over 40000 kwh !
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Hi,

The readings I gave are correct, I've taken the first reading which is on my online account (77388) and as of 4th Jan (81605) this is without any red numbers.

Just to confirm this is for a period of 14 months (Nov 17' to Jan 19').

    Thanks.

    For very quick estimate:

    units used x 11 x kWh price

    44,000 kWh * 0.02736 = £1200

    Plus standing charge

The readings are in cubic feet or cubic metres, depending what sort of meter you have.

If you have a cubic feet meter, multiply your reading of 4217 by 33 for a reasonable estimate.

If you have a cubic metre meter, multiply your reading of 4217 by 11.

MUST be a metric meter (fingers crossed) but still £100 per month for gas (electric ok?).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Wow ! 47,230 Kwh in just under 14 months, that's nearly 4 times greater than the national average.

Would help if gg-30 posted details of the dwelling
