Hi fellow money savers I was talking to a couple of friends and we were discussing heated throws and what they cost roughly to run, and are they worth having.
Have any of my fellow MSE'ers got one and what do they think of them and what is a good value one to buy and also are they worth the outlook ??

PS.My DGS Danny just messaged me to say in NYC it's -15c at the moment

hi I have 2 heated throws in my house and find them fab....one sits on the back of the sofa in the lounge in winter and the other one is on top of ds bed
I wanted to try one last year and found one in Lakeland then at the same time they were a special buy at aldi for I think £30 ish there was discussion on the food and groceries aldi thread at the time probably around Halloween
the plug in bit on the aldi one is heavy duty looking and safe well sealed...its quite big and heats up quickly the control means u can turn it on and off if u get too warm....one slight downside or not as the case maybe is u are marooned on the sofa with it if u want to get up obviously the heat stays on the sofa...people did mention cleaning them I think u could wash it but I haven't needed to
no idea as for running costs...low I should think I only have mine on for short spells..its a wonderful thing when the central heating hasn't kept pace with the temp outside
if mine expired id get another if u do get one please send one to new York as well as that temp sounds horrible

Thanks for the feedback It certainly is very cold out there at the moment ,the worrying thing is we normally get their weather about a week later
DGS Danny's apartment in Manhattan is a rental and included in the rent is both the heating and air con which is a blessing as they do seem to have much more extreme temperatures than we do. Felt a bit of a wuss telling him it was a it nippy in Kent at -3c
One of my friends insisted that these throws only cost around 1p an hour to run in which case its cheaper than the CH

I don't understand the big deal about heated blankets. My mum loves hers but I've tried it and not felt any benefit...says she who sleeps under 2*15 tog duvets plus a thick Crofton House (Aldi) throw, which I do recommend btw.One of my friends insisted that these throws only cost around 1p an hour to run in which case its cheaper than the CHValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I have had my Aldi one for at least 3 years, it is brilliant. At the time that I bought it I was poorly and had very bad anaemia, even with the heat at 20 degrees and many layers of wool/cashmere clothing I was always freezing. Using the throw when I was seated in my chair meant that I was snug and warm and able to turn the thermostat down. I get up and down to do chores, make drinks, visit the bathroom etc a lot, as if not feeling too great I try and do things in 15 minute bursts.
Mine is grey one side, cream the other, it washes beautifully. The throws featured in the Lakeland brochure which arrived in the weekend paper are £79.99 Quote:- With six heat settings and auto shut off it costs as little as 1p per night to run - just like all our heated throws End Quote. No idea what they base their figures on.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
150W per hour
Electricity is about 15p per 1kw.
So it is 3p per hour.0 -
Hi Jackie
I bought this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0763LW65T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 just the other week and it's great for keeping the chill off.
My place is an old stone cottage so is not at all insulated. Today i've arrived home in darkness and don't want to light the woodburner so am sitting wrapped up and am cosy enough.
I choose the teal colour, other colours are cheaper and other makes are available. The blurb says "yet it costs as little as a penny to run for as long as 7 hours". I thought it was 1p an hour so that was great to read tonight.
As for being sedentary - sitting under my throw doesn't make me not move around, even I am not such a wimp! The heat also eases the ache in my poorly right knee which is an added bonus.
My advice - go for it!0 -
Sitting with mine now whilst watching a film. Central Heating is on low, saving fuel so a heated throw is very MSE.
And yes helps with arthritis too.
Does it mAke me more sedentary. Of course not. I have been active all day.0 -

ETA: your post explains why my energy Bill has shot up c/o my Dri Buddi! Still cheaper than buying and running a tumble dryer, though.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
