Newbie, so apologies if this has been covered before.
I've had my Direct Line home insurance renewal through the post - £370.
I went online to get exactly same quote from Direct Line's own website - £205. A whopping £165 cheaper.
They say this happens a fair amount. Unbelievable

I did the same recently, just came on here to see if anyone had mentioned it.
Almost £100 cheaper with the new quote for exactly the same cover!!!0 -
I get my wife's car insurance, my car insurance and our house insurance through Direct Line. At every renewal I setup a new policy which is always cheaper than the renewal of the old one. I guess that there must be a lot of mugs out there that think that DL must be cheaper the second and subsequent years because it was cheaper the first year.0

I recently had a renewal notice from DL after the first year of my son's car insurance - he's now passed, but wife is still on provisional.
The premium had come down from over £1,490 to £791 (for a J reg Nova merit!) - I looked around and got a quote from More Than for £590 ish - rang Direct Line, no joy.
Set up the deal with More Than, then noticed a mistake _ wife shown as having full licence - rang up expecting premium hike, but a very helpful lady said - "so she won't be using it for commuting" (you know the usual - social, domestic, & pleasure, commuting) - I'd just ticked the box. Without the commuting, the premium REDUCED by £160! Result. :T
Bye Direct Line....only trouble is, our buildings & contents are with them, so on the hunt now on for better offer for March renewal.0 -

They've now written to me asking for proof of no claims discount from my "previous" insurer, haha. They ARE my previous insurer (and have been for over 5 years). :rotfl:0

Do you shop around at all or just set up a new policy with DL rather than renew? You will most likely find that by shopping around and switching co's you will save even more.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

If you take a new policy on line then that would go under a different policy reference number on their system - you think how many thousand clients they have - do you really expect them to know you have been with them for 5 years previous? you took a new business policy to which any insurer will ask for proof of no claims bonus. Its not difficult to call them and explain this!0 -
Thanks for this, yes I do expect them to know, since it was done online under the same customer login as my previous policies, and my current home insurance that I have with them too - they seem to be able to link those policies just fine. And yes, I realise it's not difficult to call them, I did exactly that.0
