This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning
Don't you just love Mondays.
Off again soon to Blackpool for day 2 with the amusement arcade managers today. I will have a punt on a kids machine this time I'm determined. They have the big grown up ones too that pay out lots but I am far too [STRIKE]tight[/STRIKE] MSE to do that. I remember when we were kids my dad would give us a 50p bag of change for a seaside arcade and once it had gone it had gone...I always came out in profit
Its quite scary to watch people loading more and more money into the big machines ...for all the vices i have had and still have gambling is not one thank goodness so 50p is my limit today:) maybe i will win a big teddy.
Car park gastronomy is sorted...tuna and sweetcorn barm cakes.
Last of the mussels were lovely so tonight I am planning on something nice and simple ...beans on toast sounding good right now
Had a lovely chat with Holly yesterday she is so much more positive now and despite all she is still going through with her chemo and up and coming radiotherapy she is still looking forward to this all being over and returning to a semblance of normality. She made me laugh when when she said she had told the consultant psychiatrist to do one as she had far too much on her plate to start navel gazing about her childhood :rotfl: That's such a different Holly than the one Before Christmas. She sends her love and apologises for not posting but sleep gets in the way
Right have a great Monday all :A

Morning All
Thanks for the start Nelski, may you win big!
Pleased to hear the baby is being well looked after dp1.
Glad you had a good few days rest nmlc.
I sorted my bedroom yesterday a la Marie Kondo, it looks good but there's no way I will be able to keep it that way, I'm far too disorganised!
The marmalade I made was from fresh oranges, not the tin of MaMade, I think that's what made it such a faff, all that shredding of the rind took ages.
Swimming, work, a visit to DD then fat club are on the agenda for today, nothing exciting unless I've lost a pound or two!
Hope all's well for you, take care. XX0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting us off Nelski. Thank you too for updating us about Holly.
I've only made marmalade once and really don't know why I did because I don't like it. I remember that my late MIL came over that day and told me that I was doing it wrong. I am goid at jams, jellies and chutneys but can't remember how the marmalade turned out.
Hope everyone has a good day - we are meant to have snow this week but nothing so far. It did try snowing, fat flees, but nothing stuck. The forecast from the met office is entirely different from some local forecasts so I'll still k with wait and see!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

Good morning, and thanks Nelski for starting off, and updating us on Holly.
There's a hard frost this morning, I know the forecast is dire, but we'll see.
I'm going to try(!!) to get a doctors appt this morning, I think I've got lymphodaema. I've got a hot red swollen arm and feel shivery. It actually looks and feels a bit better today, but I need to know if it is that, or what. I think it is that though, it's on the side where I've had lymph glands removed,
Gettiing an appointment is murder, though I might be able to see the nurse practitioner.
Hope everyone has a good day
Take care folks0 -
Morning all
Brrrr very cold here this morning OH will need to scrape the ice from his car, luckily mine is under the car port so protected from the worst of it. OH went to the shop at six yesterday evening and had to scrape the frost then
Off to work today and its going to be a cold week apparently I hope they get the heating fixed soon, its cold most of the time as most of the rads don't work.
We went out yesterday earlier than normal and went to a local dog friendly caf! right on the beach and had breakfast, it was really lovely although a bit cold and then we had a walk along the beach for an hour or so it was really lovely and we will go again.
Not sure about dinner tonight will go and have a look after this we have plenty in so wont starve.
DP1 I'm glad the baby is being well looked after lets hope they move them soon xx
Good to hear Holly is going so well xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still pitch black, cold but not frosty.
DH up and gone to work as has DS1, DS2 now eating brekkie of pancakes with lemon juice and tiny bit of brown sugar, the making of pancakes in the week for breakfast happened because if I cook roast on a Sunday there's usually some yorkshire batter left and in true OS I didn't want to throw it away - but ordinarily I don't do cooked breakfasts in the week. I made pancake batter for DS2 as he deserved it.
Lunch yesterday was going to be roast chicken and the trimmings, but as I needed to shop to re-stock in the morning it was decided that we'd have pasta in a sauce and rice with the chicken instead, all lovely and much less work, which allowed me to get jobs done ready for the week ahead.
Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - easy dinner after first day back to work, I'm only working today and tomorrow and then have a days' holiday to use up the last of my annual leave. I do have 2 days' worth of hours banked should I need any time off between now and April when our new holiday year starts again.
Back to work again this morning, although I did work Saturday and it was quite busy, expecting the same today, we'll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning AGAIN!! Grr! Posted earlier then my internet deserted me just as I clicked post and it disappeared into oblivion! It matters not it was nothing of any consequence.
Good to hear HOLLY is in good spirits despite what she is going through. Dp1 hope the babe continues to make good progress. There are so many health worries on here these days.
Watching the eclipse earlier but it wasn't the spectacular view some have had judging by the pics on the news.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the sad, worried, poorly or just p'd off. Take care all and keep safe and warm in the horrible weather that's heading our way overnight. x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning folks.
There was a big bright moon all night, and then I slept through the eclipse. Now the clouds have swept in so it's disappeared.
Yesterday I sat in front of my laptop for most of the day sorting out all the papers from the interviews. There's the Right to Work checklists, monitoring forms, question sheets and scoring sheets, suchba load of paperwork. Today I'll have to contact all the applicants with their result, one down and six up.
I cooked some more cauliflower cheese too, enough for the week as I don't think it'll freeze / unfreeze well. With a touch of luck I'll be going down to Glasgow on Wednesday.
Today it's a morning of teaching before going back up to Oban to meet a colleague. We need to discuss the teaching of a new unit.
Snow I'd forecast for the west coast though it may just be further north than here - fingers crossed. It's definitely much chiller than before.
Right, I have to face getting a shower now. I really hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Good morning all,
The HT and I were up early - we had a good view of the eclipse but I think we'll be having an early night tonight.
Nels thanks for the Holly update and I hope your have your go on the penny machines today.
Grannydp I hope the baba improves this week.
ScarletRibbons tell them it's an emergency. If they wont see you then take yourself off to A&E if you can. That needs to be seen to. They may give you antibiotics to keep at home in future.
I have some more plastic things today and I need to do a bit of cleaning and tidying up after the weekend. The cat still won't go outside - she's a posh cat with just a single layer of fur so I can't blame her. Her ideal location is anywhere in the house as long as she is attached to the HT.
Take care all of you, especially if it's frosty where you are
