iPhone 8 vs Xr

Options
Apologise for another iPhone thread, but I don't want to hijack one...

I've got a 5s and am looking to buy a new handset. Either an 8 or Xr. The latter is about £200 more expensive. My question is, is it worth the extra money over an 8? Is it noticeably better?

Thanks!

Wouldn’t bother doing a spec comparison.

Simple what did you use your 5s for and put those things in rank order. Does anything stand out that would make you need the Xr. For example you’re a camera power user so you need the best camera then get the xr.

Does the less bezels on the xr over the 8 appeal to you strongly?

Go into a Apple store and play around with both phones, paying particular attention to Touch ID on the 8 and Face ID on the xr and the screen/bezels.

My hunch is the iPhone 8 will easily meet your needs.

Had exactly the same debate last week. Upgrading from a 6S and was unsure whether to push for the XR. Ended up opting for the 8 as wasn't convinced there was a significant different beyond screen size and lack of a home button.

If you're thinking of getting iPhone 8 but aren't bothered about QI (wireless charging, which is slower on Apple phones compared to Samsung) then have a look at iPhone 7?

Has the same home button etc as the 8, but without the glass back.

  • I upgraded from 6s to 128gb XR and absolutely love it. Two day battery life (for me) brilliant single lens camera, much bigger and brighter screen, and purchased on Argos 12mth repayment plan. I would recommend it entirely.

As was said before, go to the Apple Store and have a play with them, and then choose the one you like best.

    I wouldn't buy a 7, as it's coming to end of sale.
