    You lot are great!
I was being a mum taxi hence the lack of a reply.

They are the sausage roll type thing. I realise now that mentioning bread and butter pudding may have led in the wrong direction but it honestly didn't occur to me that there was any other sort!

I can't wait to watch the YouTube video and apologise for writing cheese n onion (says me with my proofreading hat on).

I like the idea of trying to turn them into a type of big yorkshire pudding type thing. I had a feeling that I could maybe slice them up and lay them in a dish with a sauce and cheese, possibly similar to a lasagne.

I hereby retract my apology after watching the late, great Victoria Wood. Cheese n onion it most definitely is!

Congratulations on starting a very interesting thread. :T
  • Well as a none waster of anything and as they were so cheap I would just warm them up in the oven possibly when you had it on for something else then serve up with some soup. That way they will be used up,free your freezer up,plus be off your mind!

    That occurred to me too.
But I've never made a bread and butter pudding in my life. :D
I guess instead of custard you could do a cheese and/or onion sauce but what would you serve it with?
    Sausages maybe?
I think the dish is called strata (basically a structure omelette). Soak the bread in the egg mixture, store in the fridge overnight and then stick in the oven the next morning. I'm sure I saw Nigella do something like this and thinking how it must stink the place out because of the spring onion factor :o

I have made this strata a couple of times and it's absolutely delish.

That look like a good recipe. Thank you M2CM.
I like the idea of the veg in there too as sometimes this type of thing can be quite stodgy.

Nigella has a three cheese strata that uses day old French bread. I never have any, so I use any old bread I have lying around, cut into chunks. I also seldom have the cheese she uses, but always have at least three lumps of something or other that need using up in the fridge, and it always seems to work. Your cheese and onion rolls sound about perfect for that.
    Better is good enough.
