Using up cheese and onion rolls

You know how it is. You see a pack of cheese n onion rolls reduced to 10p so you grab a couple of packs and stick them in the freezer because DD1 likes them as a snack for uni.
Then she now decides that she doesn't want to eat them any more so they are lurking in the freezer waiting for something to be done with them.

So my question to all you amazing OS folks is what can I make with them? I've been toying with the idea of defrosting them then trying to do something like a savoury bread and butter pudding but not sure how that would work.

Any suggestions would be welcome especially something that looks like a proper dinner that I could set down in front of the family rather than just eating them as they are.
They are taking up a fair bit of freezer space and I need to use them up.

(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

You could just use them to make sausage baps.... with/without onions or chutney.

You could just slice/toast them a little bit then top them with more cheese and grill again.

A savoury BB pudding's all right... but I think I'd rather take my chances with some plain cooked sausages to be honest.

    That occurred to me too.
But I've never made a bread and butter pudding in my life. :D
I guess instead of custard you could do a cheese and/or onion sauce but what would you serve it with?
    Sausages maybe?

Do you want to keep them as a non-meat dish or add meat for a main meal?

Maybe put in a dish add some sausages and a little bit of Yorkshire mix (just enough to join sausages and rolls), or a plain quiche mix to join together.

Good question - I am assuming cheese and onion rolls as in sausage rolls (pastry around sausagemeat) but no meat. If its the other ignore my suggestions.

And I've assumed they're the bread cobs/baps/rolls usually sold in the bakery department in 6s.
It's funny how people's brains work differently when reading the same words. :)
  • I assume they must be ordinary bread rolls with a cheese & onion filling. If they were the puff pastry rolls, you can just heat them up as a snack, or serve with chips & beans.
I would adapt my mother's 'cheese dreams' recipe (for left over sandwiches) by slicing off the bread until it looked like a sandwich (and then making breadcrumbs - you can re-freeze if need be). Beat up some egg & milk, season, then dip the 'sandwiches' in it and fry.
After Church jumble sales, when a proper 'tea' was also served, we helped with clearing away, and counting the takings, then the 'cheese dreams' were cooked. As I write this I can picture the table on which we counted, the pan used for cooking, and my efficient mum, so pleased with us for helping!

I assume this too based on the 'grab for a snack' comment in OP post.

Would anyone eat them warm with something like a mushroom / leek sauce? Bit like a deconstructed puff pastry parcel.

    .

That was where I was coming from but on re-reading they mention a bread and butter pudding style dish - which leads to the other type of roll.

Hmm where is the OP when you need them :rotfl:
  • I'm going to jump in and assume that they are some sort of bread roll (based on the bread-and-butter-pudding thing). Make them into breadcrumbs in a food processor and use as a topping for any savoury dish that has a breadcrumb topping.
